Stunt planned at Seafair Pirates Landing? Mystery CL ad

If an ad that just appeared on Craigslist in Seattle is for real, someone appears to be planning a political protest of sorts during this year’s Seafair Pirates Landing, coming up July 7th on Alki. Thanks to Diane for spotting the ad; it offers T-shirts (“sure to be a collectors item”) and $20 to each of up to 125 people who will be hired for: “Holding a sign and/or passing out info sheets requesting that the laws of the state of Washington and the City of Seattle should apply to all.” The ad also says organizers are “expecting national TV coverage.” We’ve sent a note to the blind-box address in the ad, which also includes an ad for a mail drop in Lake City. While we continue poking around for clues and awaiting a possible reply, thought we would throw it out to you – know what this is about? If you don’t want to leave a comment, you’re also welcome to e-mail editor@westseattleblog.com.

YAY! Propaganda during this fun event. Hopefully this is not the case though.

So I am curious as to what law, and to whom they feel isn’t obeying it? Maybe the pirates can take the protesters as prisoners, and take them far far out to sea!! AHOY MATEY!!

That’s what we’re trying to find out! Have covered the landing for some years now and don’t previously remember any sort of large-scale protest/demonstration/leafletting … TR

I say round ’em up, take ’em out to main ship and have them walk the plank. Can we have a simple celebration and have the kids and families enjoy a wonderful tradition.

My guess is they are just piggybacking on a popular event that draws media and lots of people

    Pay to protest?
I love the pirates, and I highly doubt the protesters will be more vocal than them.

Someone is willing to pay $2,500, plus the cost of shirts, to hand out flyers with some vague message about everyone obeying the law? Are they aware that you can go and talk to your city council for free?

Sounds like it is a pro marijuana protest, but that’s just a guess.

  • Neighborly June 11, 2012 (11:39 pm)

Maybe they want to quiet the sound of the cannon, my only complaint against the pirates.

  • james June 12, 2012 (8:11 am)

Wouldn’t the wording suggest “anti” marijuana, not pro?

Finally, some people with the cajones to bring to light the new world order conspiracy of the so-called SEAFAIR PIRATES! Cheese and Crackers West Seattle! WAKE UP! In the shadows, the Seafair Pirates have being pulling the strings in this town since the so-called “World’s Fair”. They were behind the WTO, the Nisqually earthquake, the Tony’s Fruit Stand food fight and increase in the vending machine prices at the Colman Pool last summer- They are the masters of Chaos! Do you think our prodigiously bearded mayor is master of this burg? No! We are ruled by a sinister cabal of beer drinking adults in Halloween costumes with a fixation on scarves and frightening children! It’s not too late! We can fight them with T-shirts and xeroxed flyers telling them to behave! Join the revolution! Fight the Power! I am too tired. Call me if it works and don’t tell the pirates I said anything. I’m going to Trader Joes for some 2 buck chuck and wasabi salsa freezer waffles.

Vindication. Proof. What more do I need to say. Our lives are all in danger, or at least potentially annoyed. Where is my bottle opener?
