Wednesday traffic alert: Big soccer game; extra Water Taxi service

Heads up for Wednesday night: The Seattle Sounders-Manchester United soccer game at 7 pm Wednesday will bring an estimated 66,000 people to the stadium zone. But the good news is that you can take the West Seattle Water Taxi – it’s running Wednesday night between Pier 50 and Seacrest every half hour from 7:30 to 10:30 pm, the county says. (Thanks to Jissy for the tip!) There’s also a series of bus reroutes – read on:

From Metro Alerts:

Due to traffic congestion expected before and after the Sounders match, Metro Routes 21, 22, 37, 56, 57, 85 Night Owl, 116, 118, 119 and 132 will be rerouted off of 1st Av S in both directions north of S Lander St at all times on Wednesday, July 20. The northbound reroute is via S Lander St and 4th Av S. The southbound reroute is via 4th Av S to S Lander St. Route 37 is only affected northbound in the morning and misses no stops on this reroute, and the Route 85 Night Owl is only affected on its first round trip late Wednesday night.

Looking for clarification. This sounds like a boat will be leaving each side every 1/2 hour. Most likely its the usual leaving each side on an hourly basis (Pier 50 on the :30s and Seacrest on the hour), only extending sailings to 10:30.

There is also a sold out concert (Katy Perry) at KeyArena Wednesday night at 7:30pm, so that’s nearly 80,000 people heading into the downtown area during the evening commute.

Thank you, Joby! Haven’t seen an advisory mentioning THAT yet, and it wasn’t on our radar since we have two community meetings to cover here on the peninsula that night …

How about the express buses that use the viaduct? Will they still run on 1st Ave then make the turn at the viaduct?

Are there any express buses that take the viaduct from 1st Ave anymore? – I think they’re all on 3rd Avenue coming down Columbia these days.

Thanks for the heads up on Katy Perry – that is a lot of extra downtown traffic.

I know the express buses normally run on 3rd Ave, but are they making an exception for Wednesday?

Sorry, comment time is over.
