West Seattle Weather Watch: Snow chances, again

Aside from two major showers, our last round of possible snow didn’t go much of anywhere. But it’s back in the forecast, so from the “just in case” perspective … The National Weather Service‘s “forecast discussion” mentions two possibilities — showers this weekend, and then one “model” hinting at a “classic snow pattern” around the middle of next week. Too soon to tell for sure, on either count, but forewarned is forearmed.

Would LOVE to see some SNOW around here but The Weather Channel keeps changing their forcast! I don’t want to get my hopes too high!!!

I too wouldn’t mind a little more snow before Spring… but just a little. ;-)

Take the Forecasts from TWC and accuweather with a grain of salt… Nws has the best forecasts and they are local and worry about our “backyard” rather then having to deal with the whole country.

RN – That’s exactly why I rely on them. There are some good locals too; my former co-workers Walter and MJ at KCPQ are excellent TV meteorologists who were usually right … but I’d rather just go to the source at NWS for the basics whenever possible (and they have a reliable updating schedule – the forecast discussions usually come out three times a day, midmorning, midafternoon, midevening). – TR

OT, but will it take an Act of Congress for the NWS to stop using ALL CAPS? :-)

Love the snow bring it on

@RobertSeattle: That’s a great question; that ALL CAPS is not only annoying, it’s kind of hard to read.

Eh. The NWS all-caps thing shows those that those guys don’t even care about trying to write something legible. The fact is, the thing is just poorly written. They may know what the hell they’re talking about, but no one but a fellow meteorology wonk would know it. The all-caps thing isn’t the worst; it only makes the poorly written weather summary annoying to try to read, that’s all.

I turn to Cliff Mass’s blog for accurate (but maybe nerdy) weather forecast. He’s not even talking about snow yet.
Commercial news has to hype snow and other disasters cuz thats what sells. People react to key words and even when the veil is pulled away and the forecast is for the slightest chance of snow; people read it and go into a tizzy.

Hey flowerp – Two things about Cliff. (1) He recently made it really clear he’s not a forecaster and shouldn’t be relied on as such … some commenters were griping at him for something and he wrote a long explanation of it. I decided to call him a “weather analyst” from thereon out. (2) Patrick heard his radio appearance a little while ago on KUOW. He’s starting to see the POTENTIAL in the midweek event for “significant snow.” I’m about to go look at the NWS again to see what they’re saying … TR

I adore the local forcasts because they usually are right. I just wish they would make a 10 day out look. Kiro, Komo. and King do not have a 10 day weather forcast. Only The Weather Channel will take a stab at it! (That I know of.) That is why I look to them!

Just checked The models and it looks like a “MAJOR SNOW EVENT” Keep your eyes out for Wednesday-saturday Seattle could expect up to 1-2 feet of snow. I am a weather Junkie and if you want more info and your on facebook go to the “Pacfic Northwest Weather”group. Bunch of Metrologists and Junkies like me.

Sorry, comment time is over.
