North Delridge Neighborhood Council: From P-Patches to promotion

From tonight’s North Delridge Neighborhood Council meeting at Delridge Library, two major topics – solving P-Patch challenges, and promoting the neighborhood. Our summaries, after the jump:

First, the garden talk: Concerns about theft, after-hours loitering, and nearby drug use were tackled by Minh Chau Le from the city, who said they’re not unique to Delridge, and the city can’t limit access, so neighborhood watchfulness is helpful – that includes getting to know your fellow P-Patch gardeners, and calling police about suspicious activity. Gardener Paula Swift talked about ideas for making P-Patches neighborhood destinations, and said city grants are being sought to place art in some local P-Patches; she asked the NDNC for artist suggestions.

The night’s other two guests were Holly Krejci and Kathy Nyland, longtime Georgetown community advocates known for neighborhood-promotion/organizing savvy. How can North Delridge better promote itself as a neighborhood, and how can NDNC draw more participation? they were asked. For starters, Krejci and Nyland suggested, make sure you’re known at City Hall. Also, schedule meetings at varying locations so more people will see them and attend – restaurants were suggested, for starters. The two also offered advice on creative ways to contact residents to be sure they’re aware of opportunities for neighborhood involvement.

North Delridge Neighborhood Council meets the second Monday of each month, 6:30, Delridge Library; find NDNC online at ndnc.org.

Another good piece of advice is to suck up to developers. You will have no clout at City Hall unless you are in their pocket.

Sorry, comment time is over.
