West Seattle canine news: Toby’s been found; plus, coyote on cam

Two bits of four-footed news: First, you might have seen signs – or searchers – looking for Toby the yellow Lab. He’s been on the WSB Pets page for the past several days, too, and a topic of discussion in the WSB Forums. This morning, we got word he’s been found. Grace, who recently adopted Toby, sends a big thank-you to everybody who helped look, saying they got lots of calls from WSB readers. We also just got word of another happy reunion, this one from a post to the Pets page early today. Hope you never need to use the Pets page, but if you find or lose a pet, it’s been there as a West Seattle-specific resource for almost three years now (e-mail lost/found pet reports, with photos if you have them, to editor@westseattleblog.com).

Also in the canine realm:

That photo’s used with permission from Byron , who posted it on his blog-format site for Textura Design, a creative agency in West Seattle. He photographed the coyote this morning near his Schmitz Park-area home and says he’s seen this one before. (If you haven’t read the advice for coexisting with coyotes, here’s the link we always share; our archived coverage of West Seattle coyote reports, including other photos, is here.)

good news about a dog returning to its family. i was at west seattle golf course and spotted a coyote there. it didnt look like it was interested in anything going on there or anybody, but still i left it alone.

So it really was a coyote we heard around 4am this morning! (We’re just 1.5 blocks from Schmitz Park reserve.) We have 3 chickens we keep locked up in a coop at night, but not so sure about letting them roam in their run during the day time now!

kr – we live on the east side of Schmitz Park and also woke up last night 4:15am to LOTS of wild barking/howling noises that sounded like a pack of coyotes. We too have chickens, and I ran to the back yard. They were fine – locked in the henhouse – but it was eerie to hear the coyotes so close. I was also worried about my neighbors’ cats that often roam around outside at night.

I am so happy the dog and owner are reunited, this looks like the same lone coyote that hangs in the green belt in the morgan junction area as I recall the white scarf(saddle) under his neck. They travel hundreds of miles a night, I would love it if he wore a camera on his collar and we could view just what he does all night long.

I am so, so happy to see this news about Toby.
Have been thinking about him a lot, hoping that he wasn’t out in this present downpour. Yeah for West Seattle!!

So happy to hear about Toby being found safe & sound. I have 2 dogs of my own & I would be beside myself if I lost them. Nice to hear from other dog lovers.

Glad Toby was found, I feel like I know him from all the places I saw his pic in West Seattle! I had a childhood dog named Toby so I was really rooting for him. Happy day!

Yay, Toby! I saw him the other day and have been wishing I had been able to catch him since. Such happy news for his family and him.

So glad Toby was found. We live next to Schmitz Park and many nights here the coyote pack which get us worried about any dogs or cats out at night.

Coyotes made my husky “dog aggressive”. Cost me 500 bucks when she bit another dog at the dog park. After she got into it with one of those things she’s been “Fear reactive.”

Yay for Toby. Have been keeping my eye out for him on daily dog walks and wondered if he had been found. Thanks for the update. Good thoughts for Cory and family as well.

Sorry, comment time is over.
