Followup: Police release new details of Jack in the Box holdup

Police have finally published an SPDBlotter report on this morning’s West Seattle Jack in the Box holdup, with many more details than were available this morning (here’s our previous report):

Two adult male suspects entered the open back door of a restaurant located in the 4200 block of SW Admiral Way. Both suspects were wearing face masks and gloves and one of them was armed with a large silver revolver. The suspects ordered everyone to get down on the floor.

The suspects then took one female employee to a back room containing a safe and ordered the employee to open it. When she didn’t open it fast enough for them, the armed suspect struck her on the head with his gun. The victim employee opened the safe and the suspects fled the scene on foot with cash taken from the safe. The suspects remain at large.

Both suspects are described as adult black males, 5′8″ to 6′0″, with medium complexions. Both suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts. One suspect was wearing all black clothing and the other all gray clothing.

The employee who was pistol whipped is a female in her 20’s. She was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire Department Medics and transported to an area hospital by ambulance for non-life-threatening head and facial injuries.

I had nearly the exact same experience 30 years ago while working at a McDonald’s in Portland. In my case, we were shuffled into the walk-in refrigerator at gunpoint while the 19 year old shift manager had a gun placed against his head as he fumbled with the safe combination. It was the single most frightening moment of my life. I remember I couldn’t describe nearly anything about the two men because I pretty much just focused on their guns.

Seriously what the frick is going on in West Seattle? With the multiple bank robberies and now this. This could have been so much worse w/employees and patrons shot. It’s very frustrating that these fools are on the loose. We need to take this community back.

Where’s that armored car guard that did such a fine job with his handgun at MacDonalds on Rainier Avenue yesterday? He handle the situation just right yestereday; unfortunately the perp is still alive. Too bad he wasn’t at Jack in the Box this morning—the outcome might have been much better.

2 “men” Pistol whipping a 20 something year old women? For crying out load! That is pathetic & cowardly! I hope their Karma is circling around to smack them up-side the head! Honestly, what is this world coming to?

Comment by me, at least the people working at JITB have a job, and might I add, a very good close friend of mine is the 2nd longest in employemnt for JITB Pacific Northwest Region and he makes a very good living there. Its his only job he has ever had. What these people had to experience is not fun and for some people will be with them for a long time.

I guess when your job sucks, you have to put other people’s jobs down.

Pretty sad. X2 on the “manliness” of hitting women in the face. How pathetic can you get? And how much cash could they have gotten? Perhaps a day’s pay if those two decided to get a job? Of course, logic seems to elude most criminals.

just want to point out that not all women are shrinking violets, and some use kick-boxing as a workout/self-defense regimen. i have met women that i would not mess with when they’re angry.
    .
it would have been heart-warming to hear that the victim planted a heel in the perp’s solar plexus and dropped him like a sack of dirt – without endangering herself, of course.

Hey WSB… have you noticed how your Comment section doesn’t stay on track, and that being anonymous makes people brave and/or racist? See the original article posted on this and many other subjects where people love to run on and on with some scary dribble. It’s getting quite annoying. This isn’t freedom of speech issue – because most of these things said wouldn’t be said with the “targets” standing in front of them. Like I mentioned in the original post – I would rather face the criminals who only want my money. These people leaving hateful comments want far more… and we live among them!

Can you consider taking away the factor of being anonymous? Then, let’s see people leave comments.

We actually patrol the comments much more on this site than news websites with far larger staffs (check comment threads on seattlepi.com, Slog, etc., to see what we mean), and have taken heat for actually having and enforcing some rules. Our comment sections aren’t shiny/happy/perfect but they are a WORLD apart from some of what else is out there in the news world.
      .
That said, if you see a comment that you think violates our rules, please e-mail us – editor@westseattleblog.com – maybe we missed it.
      .
As for the suggestion that requiring registration would magically improve online commenting, that’s an urban legend. For one, identity is not provable unless you require something like a credit card, driver’s license – sorry, not going to do that. You can go to any “registration required” site tomorrow, make up a name, bingo, you’re there. We study best practices in the industry, and it’s very clear that requiring registration for user comments does little but stifle discussion because a percentage of people don’t want to go through the hassle. (Registration IS required in the WSB Forums – because that’s the way the software works – sorry about that.) Most commercial sites only want registration so they can get your personal contact info to send you marketing material. (We do not make lists out of the forum data, BTW. )
      .
For two, probably the ugliest comment threads with which we ever have been nominally associated have been not here on WSB, but have been a few that erupted following story links on our Facebook page – and FB, as you may know, has more real-name usage than most websites.
      .
As for what people supposedly wouldn’t say face to face – ever been to a public meeting on a controversial topic?

The reason for the increased crime, and it’s encroaching on West Seattle, sounds simplistic, but I believe it true…

Keep adding to the densitiy with condos, townhomes, and apartments, and you’ll get more and more people in and around the neighborhood who are not invested in it and will prey on the “locals”.

All you have to do is look across the country at the north east coast. Many places are crime-ridden slums trying to make a comeback.

But shhhhhhssssh – don’t say that – it may offend someone.
