From White Center Now: County may mothball 30+ parks

Published at partner site White Center Now — County Executive Kurt Triplett has proposed “mothballing” 39 King County parks — 6 in the North Highline (including White Center) area — to save $. It’s a developing story; we’ll continue posting reaction/details there.

    This will really help the drug and prostitution problems in those areas.

    mike- i hope you are being sarcastic. when parks are not maintained, crime problems often worsen in that park because they receive less use from the general public, therefore becoming more secluded and sketchy. The park then start to look worse and can end up becoming a dumping ground-literally and figuratively. The park in the picture of this story on White Center Now blog-White Center Heights Park- is a great park, I ran a volunteer event there a year and a half ago planting a few hundred trees, shrubs and sedges in the wetland and worked with a group of youth from EarthCorps’ Summer Youth Corps to restore portions of the park. I know that many community members have donated their time and effort to making our urban parks and forests healthier places. It would be a shame to let all this hard work from the community go to waste.
