Can you donate blood? Heat wave = possible shortage

We were just about to update our calendar with word of a September 4th blood drive at the local Prudential Northwest Realty office (more on that later) when this came in – Puget Sound Blood Center needs help NOW because of the weather: They’ve had to cancel blood drives “scheduled for un-air-conditioned venues” (no donating anywhere it’s 80 degrees or more indoors) and that’s cost them almost 200 donations. Read more about how/where to help.

The Tukwila donor site, right across the street from the Southcenter Lowe’s, is super convenient with lots of parking. It’s my “donation location” of choice. If you’re in that area today, consider stopping by to give a pint.

But don’t forget to drink lots and lots of water before you go. Talk about the ultimate way to dehydrate!

Would love to donate but the FDA does not allow anyone from the UK to give blood due to the theoretical possibility of Mad Cow Disease. Pretty silly rule considering I can give blood in the UK and there is a shortage here in the US.

Oh I’d love to help… but since i’m gay, I’m forbidden. God Bless the USA.

ditto Jeremiah. Second class citizenry much? It all gets tested anyway, and I (along with the majority of the gay men I know) do NOT have HIV.

The second I had sex with another man, I was banned from donating blood for life. BS.

Sorry, comment time is over.
