West Seattle Weather Watch: The wind arrives

(added 1:44 pm, video of the tree that’s going to fall on WSB HQ someday)
Got a note from Jo on Alki, and we’re seeing it here in west-facing Upper Fauntleroy (over Lincoln Park) – strong wind within the past half-hour, and sideways rain. Batten down! More to come. The forecast was updated less than an hour ago, by the way, for the metro area:

REST OF TODAY…WINDY…RAIN. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 40S. SOUTH WIND 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH.

TONIGHT…RAIN TURNING TO SHOWERS AND WINDY. PRECIPITATION MAY MIX WITH OR CHANGE TO SNOW AT TIMES WITH SLUSHY ACCUMULATIONS OF AN INCH OR TWO ON HIGHER HILLS AWAY FROM THE WATER. LOWS IN THE LOWER TO MID 30S. SOUTHWEST WIND 20 TO 30 MPH EXCEPT NORTHWEST WINDS NORTH OF SEATTLE. WIND DIMINISHING OVERNIGHT.

the temp fence is blown down at California and Graham, and the building protection across from Rite Aid is blowing around like crazy.

Our natural gas is out near 35th and Roxbury. Not sure if it’s just our house, or a wider area.

We just lost an awning from our house (around 3:30) another large gust about 4:15 knocked items off the porch.

I can’t believe the people out there – we’ve all been hearing that it’s going to raining and very windy (if not snow) today. So I was coming home from downtown about an hour ago and 2 people got on my bus wearing flip-flops (no socks) and another 2 with slipper-type shoes (open toe and heel). Don’t people realize this might be the weather to wear something a *little* more substantial than flip-flops and bare feet?

or the 3 people I saw waiting for the bus shivering and not wearing any coats…idiots.

Matt, I wonder if that’s related to the gas line work? Although you should have gotten a doorhanger, at least, if that was the case … TR
