Video: Air Force C-17′s West Seattle flyover, Seahawks-bound

November 13, 2011 at 1:13 pm | In Arbor Heights, West Seattle news | 11 Comments

Just before 1, we were driving west on SW 98th in Arbor Heights when suddenly the Junior Member of the Team said, “What’s that plane doing?” Big Air Force plane, headed eastbound – slow and relatively low – directly overhead. Pulled over and rolled video till it passed. Figured it out fairly quickly, confirmed by the Seahawks website – pre-game C-17 flyover in honor of Veterans Day (weekend).

ADDED 1:32 PM: Thanks to Anne for sharing this photo:

That was taken from Brace Point, just north of where we saw the flyover. The C-17 is a Boeing-built cargo aircraft, first deployed in 1993.

  5. I believe I know what tree that is in the video, around the corner from our house. We were just getting ready to leave the house when we heard the ROAR – both looked up in amazement. All the little birds were flying for cover. We live right beneath the small-plane path but have never seen a big jet like that fly over. It was a little spooky, but we were glad to find out it was a tribute.

  6. The pilot of the C-17 Jet was my brother, Major Kurt Junker! I am from MN and was unable to see any broadcast of the flyover…found this blog while searching for some footage of it. Very cool and BIG aircraft!!

  8. Me and the boys were at the dog park, it was a sight to see! Dogs didn’t pay any attention to it, though.

  9. Gina O, thanks for the note! Sadly some of the more interesting non-sports spectacles at major sporting events seldom make it into the broadcast (or, if they do, it’s a two-second glimpse). Thanks to your brother for his service to our country … TR

  10. This flew directly over my house when I was in the back yard. It was pretty trippy and I knew that I would be able to find an explanation of the fly over on the West Seattle blog!
