From the creative-gardening department: Seola’s planted pothole

Dawnelle just shared this photo, explaining:

Someone planted spring flowers in our long-term pothole here on Seola Beach Drive SW! I doubt that the pothole patrol will ever fix it, it’s been there for a couple of years now. Looks nice, huh?

We’re not sure whose jurisdiction the planted pothole’s in – Seattle, Burien, and unincorporated King County all have shares of that general area – but, for those within city boundaries, here’s the latest on the pothole-repair picture.

ADDED 12:56 PM: Heard back from Dawnelle, who says this is on the city side.

WEDNESDAY MORNING NOTE: Dawnelle says in comments that the pothole-repair crew showed up this morning.

Great idea, this way you can see and avoid. Unfortunately I’m sure some people would just delibertly run over them and ruin the flowers.

Has anyone notified the pothole patrol? I filled out their online form a coue weeks ago and the issues were addressed in a couple days. I notified them of another one last night and they were there in 15 minutes (I know that was a stroke of luck but it was damned impressive).

    Not a bad idea!

That seems like a nice solution for the Fairmount east of Hiawatha pothole, and the northwest corner of 39th & Fauntleroy pothole! ;)

Thanks, J … in this wide wide world, figures somebody would make a specialty of it :)

I love the caption under one of the photos on the pothole report page: “Pothole Rangers work hard to keep Seattle’s streets safe and smooth.” I don’t know about anyone else, but most pothole repairs I encounter have gone from being a big hole in the road, to being a big LUMP in the road. Still far from being “smooth”!

@J – Too funny! It’s like the adage “When life gives you lemons make lemonade.” – “When the road gives you potholes make cute little gardens in ’em”… forever the optimist. :-)

The pothole rangers were here at 8:45 am and fixed the pothole! Took them about 30 minutes, maybe. Thanks for putting the picture up on the blog, maybe that did it- or the king 5 report last night. Whatever, I’m glad it’s fixed!

Sorry, comment time is over.
