West Seattle Crime Watch: Seen this stolen Civic hatchback?

Out of the WSB inbox, from Holly:

Just sending in a quick note to alert the community of a car theft. My white 1990 Honda Civic DX hatchback (plate #774-MVS) was stolen from in front of my home sometime between 9:00 last night and 9:00 this morning. We live in the Highland Park neighborhood on 18th Ave SW between Thistle and Cloverdale [map]. Any information regarding my beloved “Lily White” would be much appreciated.

Interesting coincidence – night before last both of our cars were gotten into while parked in our driveway. Happened sometime after 9 pm and before 9 am. We are also on 18th between Cloverdale and Trenton – one block from you.

Does it have white “rims” and a wing? If so, it was parked on the south side of the Jahova’s Witness Temple on 22nd and Cambridge

    Holly –
    Sorry you got hit.

Are you (and Karen) in a Block Watch? You should report BOTH incidences to them and to SPD. If you don’t have a BW, might want to get one going. There are links for Benjamin Kinlow at the SW Precinct on the Crime Watch page.

At least make sure you guys get the word out directly to your neighbors…

    again, bummer!

I used to own the same car, same color, same year. Stolen and never recovered. They love them.

We live on 17th in about the same area. Our neighbor’s car was gotten into as well while sitting in the driveway on Saturday evening. Sounds like nothing was stolen, but the contents of their glove box were scattered all over the vehicle.

I wouldn’t be all that surprised if my wheels are sitting with your car somewhere. My wheels were stolen right off my car around 1:00pm on a Thursday 2 weeks ago on SW Holden and Highland Park Way. I really hope the cops find this person soon, I’m going to have 600$ worth of car alarm installed tomorrow, I’m living in fear of losing my valuables over here.

I overheard some people chatting on the 21 Bus route that West Seattle is where the “easy-Money” is.

Alarm’s can be disabled. Thieves cut the wire by reaching up inside the inner splash shield (usually they run from dash to battery and along the same)–very easy to access this type Honda. Can pull out the window and reach in and unlock the door, once inside you simply strip the plastic cover on the steering column looking for the white cup on the left side, you manually turn it and the car starts right up. No key necessary.

I recommend you get low COMP deductible for this car, and the CLUB. It’s not perfect either as it can be cut in half. I would stay away from pre 1999/2000 cars for this reason. Better to have a vehicle with a transponder type key, thus the thieves cannot drive off (unless they have a tow truck) as the key circuitry control’s the electronic fuel pump. No key-no drive!

Told by a former Fire & Theft Investigator.

Sorry, comment time is over.
