lgMemberHi fellow WSers.
My husband and I are expecting 6/23 and need to get a will together to make sure our little dude is taken care of if something should happen to us. It should be an uncomplicated affair, but I think I’d like to go to a lawyer rather than just get one of those template things from an office store.
Can anyone recommend someone. I’d like to support a WS lawyer if possible, because, well, I’d feel good about it.
thanks in advance for the help!

addParticipantCongrats, lg!
I am also interested in people’s thoughts about the value of seeing a lawyer for a “standard” will as opposed to doing one online or with the office-store template. I was thinking about completing one online (cost was about $25) and then maybe having a lawyer review it – maybe an hour’s worth of billable time. Would appreciate any and all thoughts on this!

JimmyGMemberHad my will, associated medical papers and power of attorney papers done in WS years ago. It’s pricey (back then it was $400) and mine was uncomplicated too.
The lawyers office was on California–I think Sharon Best and associates?
I’m sure you can get it cheaper, I just needed it done ASAP at the time.

flowerpetalMemberDoug Titus is an attorney on California Ave near the Morgan Junction. He is a long time West Seattle resident and I have heard nothing but positive comments about his practice.

jissyParticipantlg — Kudos to you guys for being prepared! I would highly recommend Jerry Cohen — he does estate planning and wills but I don’t know his pricing.
He’s located at 4554 Calif. Avenue SW in the Junction 206-621-9095.

lgMemberWOW! You guys are fast. Thanks for all the great recs. It’s nice to know there are so many people to talk to about this in our backyard.
add, the reason we’ll probably go to a lawyer rather than use a template is because many years ago my mom worked for an attorney, and she recommended we do that just so that we are certain to be getting advice based on the state’s laws etc. My mom gives great advice, so I didn’t question her too much beyond that. I’d love to hear other’s take on this issue as well. My mom’s pretty “old school” so maybe things have changed and we shouldn’t be so concerned with seeing an “actual person” for this.

flowerpetalMemberI guess any will is contestable; but I feel more confidant about my will not being questioned because it was written by a lawyer; and witnessed by individuals who do not know me (and have no interest).

deckard1982MemberI have a general practice law office that I opened recently with my sister. We do handle wills and other family law matters. Though we are based in Ballard, I find myself in West Seattle frequently. I would be willing to travel for an appointment.
We are located at 2406 NW 80th Street in Ballard. Our office hours are 9-5 Monday through Friday and 10-2 on Saturday.
