I am looking for waterfront space here on West Seattle, Vashon Island, Bainbridge Island, or surrounding areas off of Hood Canal…where we could hold a small wedding with approx 50-60 attendees. We are hoping to hold the ceremony on lawn with water as the backdrop, any suggestions?

How about where they found Laura Palmer?

I was going to recommend Kiana too. My brother got married there and it was lovely.

Have you already ruled out waterfront parks? I have seen (not attended, but seen photos of) some lovely ceremonies around here. For the grass beneath your feet, perhaps the knolls east of Seacrest … or what about Lincoln Park? Seattle Parks issues permits for such things, I believe. Or maybe the huge lawn inset at Hamilton Viewpoint Park, with the bay/city skyline behind you. Assuming you’re one of the spouses-to-be … congratulations!

There is a venue space on Vashon called Villa Vashon that looks really beautiful. It’s right on the water. http://www.villavashon.com

We had ours at Seacrest. We rented a picnic shelter there (and used the grassy space nearby) for $50 in 2008.

We held our reception elsewhere, because you cannot have alcohol outdoors in a public park. It was perfect for the ceremony, though.

I have not rules out waterfront parks with the ceremony elsewhere….our concern with a park was the possibility of well the public being too in the way or loud. How does it work with people interfering or being in the space?

Oh and thanks! I am one of the betrothed!

Oops, I meant Seahurst. The one down in Burien. In my experience that park is rarely busy, and the northern picnic shelter (near the marine research center) is sort of tucked away. The southern one has been built up a lot and is a lot less private.

One thing to know about Seahurst is that the seawall is being removed, which obviously would impact the look of the site and when/how it can be used, so check with Burien Parks about the timeline if you’re thinking of using that park.

We went to a wedding here and it was magnificent, at water’s edge with an open walled gable roof log structure over the ceremony seating area (in case of inclement weather) and a log cabin lodge immediately adjacent, perfect for a reception. Book early!

    Kitsap Memorial State Park

This park, six miles north of Poulsbo off Highway 3, is the only state park on Hood Canal that rents cabins.

The 58-acre park has nearly 2,000 feet of saltwater shoreline and features a large grassy field. Stairs lead down to a beach littered with oyster shells. The park has 28 tent spaces.

The park also has facilities for wedding receptions, family reunions and company picnics. There’s also the Hospitality House, a historic cabin with a bedroom and kitchen available for overnight stays. For information or reservations, call 360-779-3205.
