I noticed you because you were yelling at your small (not a corgi, but corgi-sized) dog on the street, telling it to heel. You then hit your dog twice very hard on its back, while it cowered and hit the deck. When you stopped before crossing the street, the dog hit the deck again, obviously terrified of you.

I drove around the block to try to catch up with you but you were too swift in getting into your house, I supposed, once I yelled, “Don’t hit your dog!” at you from my car.

But don’t think you are going to get away with this. Your neighbors are very aware and caring people. Behavior like this will be reported.

Also, I noticed you did not have your dog on a leash. Perhaps leashing your dog would cause you to have a little less anger at it, but I kind of doubt it. Your behavior was the cruelest I’ve had the displeasure to witness in person.

You do not deserve to have any animals.

Yes! Yes! Report this and any other abuse you see, hear or suspect. Please encourage all the neighbors to do the same. If the dog is being hurt physically or mentally, it needs to have advocates to speak for it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help.

I want to report him, but he was too fast getting back into his house, and I couldn’t see which one he went into. : ( I can’t really express how shocking it was to witness — I’d never seen someone hit a dog that hard or with such malice.

So just putting out a call: If there’s anyone who lives near that intersection, please get in touch with me. I’m not turning this into a witch hunt; I just would be interested to know if anyone else has witnessed something like this or might have a clue for me to go on. Sigh.

What a jerk! I am glad you let him know you saw this happening and i hope he felt some shame. I feel so bad for that poor dog. :(

Go back to same block and knock on doors describing the ‘man’ and the dog, take someone with you if it will make you feel safer, and just go into detective mode inquiring if folks know where he lives. Once confirmed, you don’t even have to approach, call Animal Control, especially since you are the witness,(they hate 2nd hand info), and/ or leave a note about what you saw and what you expect out of said ‘man’ for future welfare of dog. AWESOME of you for your intent! Thankyou!

DFW; What did the ‘man’ look like? More color and fur description of the dog? You may get more help by folks reading this and recognizing him by already witnessing him and the dog in that area. Also sounds up the block from Lien Animal Clinic, doctors offices, VFW Hall.. correct?

    Thank you for caring!

If you have the time, check in with Lien Animal Clinic, as they are located very close to 36th and Alaska,(talk to Diane or Kristin). Let them know what you saw; describe the man & his dog; ask them to keep a look out for any further dog beating and if they see it, call Seattle Animal Shelter. You may even want to write it down and hand it to them. It’s easier to share with the staff if it is written form.

His dog could very well be one of their clients (which they cannot share with you), but at least talking with them will raise a flag should the dog ever come in injured.

It may be worth the time to have the same conversation with the fire department and the new tire place, handing them a written copy of the write-up…..just case this man ever walks past either of their buildings.

Again, thank you for caring about this dog.

Again, what does he and the dog LOOK like? Tonight, just before 7:00pm as the bus was going up Alaska St. I glimpsed south down 36th and a few yards down was a tall slender white male with a small ‘Corgi’ sized(but not Corgi)dog, very short fur with a tail that curled back towards its back, maybe a white tip.. is that the description of both? It was only about 2 seconds of a look. Btw, this is NOT a witch-hunt, this is about protecting an innocent animal from further fear and abuse. Please post a better description and what time you saw them. Thanks.

Although I’m glad to see the outrage toward an abuser, I would strongly recommend against going the Nancy Drew route. Talk to the vets at Lien and keep an eye out. If you see it again, report it. Knocking on doors and seeking to call out the abuser yourself is asking for trouble. Odds are, an abuser of animals is probably too cowardly to harm a person, but on the other hand, the guy clearly has issues. Don’t put yourself in harm’s way.

I think it’s likely that anyone who hits a dog was himself hit while growing up. So don’t approach this with anger. Develop some understanding and come up with a strategy.
