CBMemberGot it! I’m going to shovel half of my sidewalk and leave the other part as is. I’ve had the same problem as the posts above, sometimes the shoveled walks are slicker, sometimes not, depends on what the temperature does each night. Then people can use the side that is working that day. JoB thanks also for the tip about de-icers and pet paws, I didn’t think about that.

JillParticipantCB, lol, now there’s a creative thinker! We just have a coupla garden spades, so we might take your advice on that. We started the digging project today and got to the sidewalk, halfway done. (Rain, melting. And so the real mess begins…)

JoBParticipantno shovels of any kind to be found at Home Depot yesterday…
and i tried the tried and true method of snow removal.. winging a booted foot back and forth and found that the layers of ice in that snow are sharp enough to cause real pain even with boots on.
please don’t visit us. if the sidewalks don’t get you outside the dogs who have been cooped up too long or the half crazed little old lady who is baking entirely from mixes now since QFC is out of eggs will get you inside:)

JayDeeParticipantOK, I finally shoveled the sidewalk. Why? Mainly because 1) I had the time; 2) The slush was slipperier than the old compact snow; and a relative of mine coming to dinner sprained an ankle on the ice last week, so figured I would make a clear path to the house. Unlike hizzoner I used salt to ensure the sidewalk doesn’t ice over. The trivial amount of salt I add to localized runoff will not ruin the environment.
