We would like to replace our hot water heater. I know nothing about them. Any recommendations on who to call?

O’Neill Plumbing is the best and they are WSB sponsors too!

    <<<Smitty pet peeve alert>>>

It’s a water heater, not a hot water heater. If the water was hot you wouldn’t need to heat it!

    Oh, and O’Neill.

Brennan installed our tankless water heater. Plus if the power goes out I can run an extension cord to a generator for a hot shower. But O’Neill is local. I Walk my dogs by their offices almost every day. If you are going to be there for awhile I would suggest a tankless system. If it is temporary stay with a standard water heater.

We had O’Neill. install ours years ago. Got a bid ahead of time and when it came time to pay he charged me $100 more. Because we have stairs and the guy said it was hard to bring it up! Won’t be using them again. We are actually in the market for a new hot water heater (not in the stairs house) and will be looking for somewhere besides O’Neill. (btw I did get my $100 back after speaking with the manager)

Have you thought about DIY? It’s very simple. Two water connections and whatever the energy source is. I asked my garbage man for advice about getting rid of the old one and he advised putting it at the end of the alley. It was gone by the end of the next day. You’ll save hundreds.

I had mine replaced in 2001 not long after I purchased my first house; I was entirely ignorant, a sheep to the slaughter, if you will.

I had an absolutely dreadful consultation with a belligerent plumber from Southwest (never never never again!!) and then called O’Neil. They sent the nicest guy out who not only replaced my water heater at half the cost of what Southwest quoted, but explained what he was doing as he went. While he was there I asked him to replace the shower head with one I bought. He did it but wasn’t happy with the connector piece and called me a couple of days later and said he found what he wanted at McClendon’s and came over and replaced it on his own time and at no cost.

Southwest quoted me in the vicinity of $1300 to replace it, O’Neil was $700ish. I was told by others afterward that if I had gone with an independent plumber it likely would have been much cheaper, but I felt like I got my money’s worth in customer service and peace of mind.

They also saved me a few years later when my hose bibb snapped off the day after Thanksgiving, and were there within 15 minutes to make sure I was able to turn the water off at the street – and I was thoroughly relieved to find that they didn’t consider that day a holiday therefore charged at the regular rate.

Hmc Rich do you have a whole house electric water heater? Does it keep up with demand? Going to have to call Brennan been wanting to find out about the tankless.

I had mine replaced by Rudy’s Plumbing along with a Toto toilet. Nice workers, good price and immaculate clean-up. 206-232-8500

Hello Clark. It does heat the whole house but for the kitchen it takes a little extra time running the hot water faucet to get the heated water since the kitchen is the furthest away from the unit. It can handle a few rooms running hot water but I really haven’t ran extra faucets to see. I do take showers while washing clothes. Hope that helps. They may have different sized units for larger houses. I don’t know for certain
