I just had the hardwoods refinished and would like to get the ducts cleaned before too long. Any recommendations out there. My one and only experience with duct cleaning went horribly wrong so i am looking for someone who stands behind their work.

    thanks!

Not West Seattle, but I have used this company several times over the years and have been very satisfied with their service. Great work, and fair prices.

Thanks, Kevin! Good to know. As it turns out, i made an appointment with them on Friday. i am kind of in a hurry and the better companies seem to be out a couple weeks. as it is, they can’t come until 9/8! hope that’s a good sign:)

The wait is quite normal considering most folks are just a few weeks away from running their heating systems as the weather starts to change.

    .

They told me the best time to call them is spring or early summer when their business is slow.

I’d like to find a company that could clean both my dryer vent and the cooking vent over my commercial gas range. Anyone know of a company that could handle both?

Christopher, take a look at the Aurora Edmonds web site. They do those services too.

We are thinking of getting our ducts cleaned professionally, due to an interior dust storm brought on by some poorly contained construction work in our basement this summer. I’d be interested in hearing more from people about how this process works, what it typically costs, and whether you get real tangible benefits from it. Also, are there companies you would suggest we specifically avoid, in addition to any others we should consider? Ideally, we’d like to get two or three bids and then decide.

waterworld- i will post after my duct cleaning on the 9/8 to let you know how it went. for now, stay away from Kleen-Rite. my house was worse “after” they cleaned the ducts. long story. made no attempt to remedy the situation.

I had ducts cleaned last year. It was a truck with inflatable bladder type things in the truck bed. Noisy. I thought it would be done from each vent but it was actually done from the heater (furnace).

There are different thoroughness though, one they go in from the vents, and brush out the ducts of debris (particularly from new construction).

Though new construction, the price dictated I do the super duper vacuum job. It seemed like a good idea and I am glad I did it.

Prices varied but it seemed the process was similar, and a competitive field. Try Angies List or Yelp too.

In the past I had the ducts cleaned several times and they were cleaned well, but in reality there was no less dust accumulation in the house.

I do have a dusty house in general for some reason, but have concluded that regular duct cleaning is a waste of money, unless of course you had a ton of sawdust get in there or something, but as general maintanence, not for me.

i agree with you rico, but the floor refinish made me do it.

Had Aurora Edmonds out here on the 8th and they were very careful and thorough. They use a truck-mounted system that i experienced first hand…. almost lost my hand;) the guy told me he sucked up a wharf rat once. once of those times you want something to “suck”. price seemed reasonable. Don’t be misled by the coupons that come in the mail that say $95 whole house. not likely as powerful and when i researched them, they had bad reports.

Last week Mike from Aurora Edmonds Furnace Cleaning came out to our house- great job!

I was having a serious bout of allergies and this seemed to help solve that this week. Very thorough and explained everything they were doing. They use the same sort of system that BBGuest describes – would highly recommend!
