blackwatchMemberI ranted a while back about my neighbor and their dogs and things had gotten much better for a while. But The young girl that lives there just started slacking off and it was getting miserable again. I asked her repeatedly to please get a handle on the dogs and she just didn’t get it.
Finally I wrote a letter to animal control in the hopes that they would let her know what was up.
Well, they came and informed them, charged them for licenses they didn’t have.
Well the guy who lives there came out and started calling me every name in the book trying to get me to fight him. It really makes for a peaceful home environment. I called the SPD to see what my options were as I haven’t fought since I was a freshman in High school, and though I won that fight me fighting would be comical as I have a bad back and bad discs in my neck. They were going to come out but I decided to wait and see if it was just an initial blow off of steam or not. If he continues to be an A-hole I’ll take other options. It does make me just a bit angry that the guy who owns the house can rent rooms to every low life on the planet and I have to deal with them…..The last bunch were meth heads…and I’m beginning to miss them…….
What would you guys do?…..

johnnyblegsMemberIf you’re a renter – move out. It doesn’t mean “they won” if you move. Seems like you have a bad situation and often the best solution is to walk away.
If you own the house – tough call. You can keep pouring energy into the situation by calling the police, animal control, home owner of the house, etc. until you’re blue in the face and maybe it will remedy the situation. Or just ignore them all together.

EmmyJaneParticipantI think it might be good to let things cool down for a while until you decide to do anything else. When emotions are raging like this, it’s hard to see everything clearly. That being said, if he/she threatens you again, 911.

DPMemberIt sounds like you’re no match for this guy, blackwatch. Do you have any buddies who would be willing to take your place in the ring?
If you must fight him yourself, I suggest you both agree on the rules beforehand — no eye gouging for example — and if I were you, I’d wear a neck brace, just in case.
Hope my comments have been helpful.

johnnyblegsMemberLooking back at your previous rant post I think DP had the best advice

hollyplaceParticipantIf it keeps escalating I would think about getting a restraining order and a security camera.

mpentoParticipantIf you have any mean looking friends or know some backyard brawlers time to have them over for a visit. No interaction is necessary just give them the idea that someone could have you covered if it was needed. But really just try and let the dust settle but don’t let them get away with crap either.

acemotelParticipantaaagh. nothing worse than a bad neighbor! A really tall fence is one idea. I second the suggestion to move, if you can. Life’s too short to be ruined by an idiot. Drugs may help. :-)
October 15, 2010 at 1:45 pm #705644
redblackParticipantif you feel threatened, use pepper spray. (buy in bulk.)
when his vision clears, have the cops standing there, ’cause he’s going to be a little angry. and knowing that he’s a grown man willing to get into a fist fight – over being a good citizen and neighbor, no less – tells a lot about his mental disposition. maybe he has a small penis or something.
the upside is that the cops will see him for the irrational moron that he is, and act accordingly.
has he been trespassing when he tries to get you to fight him?
October 15, 2010 at 1:57 pm #705645
GoGoParticipantHahahahaha, “maybe he has a small penis”! Love it. I too feel your pain Blackwatch. Bad neighbors suck.

JanSParticipantredblack, I like you ..hehehehe…

The Velvet BulldogParticipantSounds like you need allies. How about getting neighbors involved in a letter-writing campaign to the landlord? If he doesn’t like being bothered (such as, taking the extra steps to insure decent tenants) then maybe he’ll want to stop dealing with all the neighbors’ complaints and get rid of the tenants? Also, if you can get other neighbors to make complaints to Animal Control, then the tenants won’t think you’re just trying to be a jerk.
I am sorry for your situation–I ended up moving away from batsh*t crazy neighbors a while back. The one time that being a renter worked in my favor.
October 15, 2010 at 5:36 pm #705648
DPMemberDrugs?
Pepper spray?
Penis comparisons?
blackwatch: I think the most important lesson to take away from this episode is that the Blog community totally has your back.
Hell, I’m so mad at your neighbor right now, I’d fight him myself — except that my bunions are absolutely killing me.
October 15, 2010 at 8:12 pm #705649
WorldCitizenParticipantYou know…you could just let the guy hit you. If he’s really that much of an idiot then he deserves to get kicked out of his home…and arrested. Not sure if you’re willing to or can take a punch, but if you’re up for it, it’s a couple minutes of pain for probably never another problem renter from the home owner ever again. It’s a bummer to think about it that way, but may be worth it.
I’d just be sure he’s not a Kung-Fu master first. What are the chances?…Right?
October 16, 2010 at 1:53 am #705650
blackwatchMemberThanks for all the good advise. I’m going to let thing lie and if he says anything else I’m getting the police involved.
I don’t really like to do it that way, I’d love to smack the guy, he’s just a low life renting a $500 a month room in a neighborhood of single family homes. But I’m the kind of guy that even if I did the stupid thing and hit him I’d be the one getting sued and he’d walk.
It’s also not how the big kids are supposed to play.
October 16, 2010 at 5:31 am #705651
redblackParticipantDP, i’d get your back getting blackwatch’s back – if the gout wasn’t acting up.
btw, i wasn’t comparing manhood. i was merely suggesting possible reasons for feelings of inadequacy, which can lead to outpourings of aggression toward one’s neighbors if not met with self-understanding.
but i was serious about self-defense, and i don’t like bullies.
i have a pile of them rotting at the end of my driveway.
October 16, 2010 at 11:10 pm #705652
blackwatchMemberWell, I just got home and the A hole has parked his truck touching my wife’s car and I’m done. I’m calling the police. Maybe he’ll get it then…
October 17, 2010 at 12:23 am #705653
WSMomParticipantI wonder if you have contacted the owner of the rental house to fill him/her in on what’s been going on. Perhaps they could help in some way. Good luck, I feel for you.
October 17, 2010 at 1:27 am #705654
DPMemberredblack: I appreciate your support, and I am totally with you on the whole manhood thing.
After all, a guy’s manhood should not be judged by how big his, um, “manhood” is, right?
October 17, 2010 at 3:10 pm #705655
redblackParticipantyou know, DP, i’ve been pondering the phrase “male enhancement” in those enzyte commercials.
are they referring to the prostate? the nose? ego?
could be anything.
October 17, 2010 at 4:45 pm #705656
BBGuestMemberThere is a pretty stiff fine for the landlord. As difficult as documentation can be, you do have the right to quiet enjoyment.
I believe it is per occurrence (and more than $1,000.)per person in your household. Check out the noise ordinance, and the language you need to refer to when putting together your complaint. It is the LANDLORD that has to pay the fees.
The complaint process with financial cost should give you a vehicle to get the eviction in process. Most likely, unless the tenants are related to the landlord, they will be booted out.
I will go see if I am able to find the links to the city ordinances but there are community police that should be able to give you the tools that you need to help resolve this in a non violent way.

BBGuestMemberNot easily located… Benjamin Kinslow at the SW precinct would know. I found this site that looks to be a good place to start. http://www.kcdrc.org/
I hope this helps!

blackwatchMemberThanks BB…. I went into the precinct on Saturday night but no one was there but I’ll try to find the guy you mention.
The owner of the house is (I swear ) Crazy… and trying to talk to him is impossible.
I have to say…very little dog barking for the last couple of days…..it’s been nice…
