hspeidel44ParticipantRant – Illegal crabbing. I sit and watch out my window as every night men come and take a tender out with a large cooler and check their crab pots. They fill it up at least 2 times in front of Luna Park, while others fish off the pier. Not a one has a license, there is no control over the size or amount of crab being taken out of the sound. I am sure this is not their only spot to fish illegally. It does no good to call the Wildlife and Game Enforcement, State Patrol or the Police Dept. You can be assured if I did such a thing I would be fined or thrown in jail.

Please continue to try and get a response. The link above may help but you probably already tried their suggestions. There have been so very high profile cases recently and even though the budgets have been strained, these folks still care a great deal.

rdmParticipantJust curious how it is that you know that not one has a license?

The Velvet BulldogParticipantThese are the crabbing season rules: http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/crab/area.php?id=17
“Timeslid” noted how to report a violation.
They do point out that they have very few resources for enforcement, but if this is a regular occurrence, they may be able to address it eventually.
It’s up to all of us to protect Puget Sound and its critters.

GinaParticipantI’m curious also about how it is known that they don’t have a license. If the person asking isn’t an officer, I wouldn’t show mine.

mav0414Participantare they tribal/native american fishermen in the tender?
tribes can crab any time they want to by treaty.
State or Federal can’t control tribal fishing.

hspeidel44ParticipantYippee!!!! The St. of Wa. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife came last night and busted them all.
I have been crabbing for years and when you obtain your license you are given a set of rules, these people were not following the rules. Also you are given a sticker to put on your jacket so the authorities know you have a license and your buoys are tag with you name and phone number for identification incase you loose one. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out they were illegal. If you would like more information on the rules and regulations you can go to Wa. St. Dept of Licensing and Fishing.
Keep reporting these people, they will eventually be stopped from poaching.

bebecatMemberThank you so much for watching our waters. I walked onto a fishing/crabbing pier one time and said “Hey it’s the “Game Warden!” and 1/4 the fishermen/crabbers got up fast and vacated the dock. Lots of poaching going on.

blissMemberYah, let the legal fishermen over fish our oceans. I’ve met many a fisherman. Its true, but no laws in place for this.

KeithMemberAnyone crabbing that close to the mouth of the Duwamish should probably be locked up for their own safety.

hspeidel44ParticipantNo kidding. Here is what the poachers are also doing. They fish off the Spokane St. Bridge and when they catch a salmon, they reel it in and if someone comes the guy under the bridge cuts it off and drives away in his truck….Do you think they have a license? If so why would they run…..Geeeeee
