If you have found a lost pet please be careful to leave out enough info in your posting that only the owner will be able to get their pet back. Leave out a bit of info such as neutered or not, collar or not, color of collar, or any unusual markings. Never give your address and say to just come and get the pet! A pitbull fighting ring was just busted in the area. These people would love nothing more than to find a free pitbull or some other poor animal to use in their fights. Yes, people do things like that, even in West Seattle.

This is good advice – maybe it could be a sentence at the top of the Pets page?

Color me naive, but I would have never imagined such a thing (local dog fighting rings). Some humans are just awful. I have cared for a few lost pets in the past; happily reuniting them with their owners. Chip your pets folks and keep your information up-to-date. It makes finding you that much easier.

There was a story on KING 5 last night about folks in a Woodinville neighborhood who believe their dogs are being stolen due to the economy. The dogs are then sold by the thieves. How simple it would be to gather found pets and sell them. I have asked the WSB editors to post a statement on the lost and found pets page cautioning the finders of lost pets not to give ALL information about a found pet to help ensure it goes back to its rightful owner.
