wakefloodParticipantOK, so Verizon just won their appeal and Net Neutrality is going away – unless we force the FCC to do something. They won’t if we don’t care – and you’ll be paying Verizon, Comcast, ATT, whatever they choose to charge for content access on the internet.
You may have misgivings about the current configuration of “net neutrality” but it can surely get worse. And I certainly don’t enjoy being at the whim of that gang of corporatists. Do you?
Here’s a place to sign a petition to the FCC to do something about it. Time is of the essence. I can hear champagne corks popping in corporate boardrooms as we speak.

herongrrrlParticipantBefore I pass this on…I didn’t see a date on the page you linked to, do you have any other info about the decision that connects it with a current date?

wakefloodParticipantWell, I don’t know the timetable for the FCC to respond either by caving and letting this court decision (yesterday) be the last word – and their definition of net neutrality goes bye bye – if that’s what you’re asking?
but there’s apparently two questions pending for them as the losers and a regulatory entity. First, I suspect is to decide whether to appeal the appeal to the SCOTUS. You can guess what might happen there, can’t you?
And the other is to decide to reconfigure proposed regulation that may/may not align with this overturn of their current law.
So, I don’t know when they have to decide which way to jump, but I’ll hazard a guess that they’ll throw in the request for SCOTUS to review the decision, which would buy them some months during which they could be working on the proposed revision.
But hey, what do I know?

herongrrrlParticipantI was just curious when the Verison decision took place. I have some other folks in my circle who monitor this sort of thing and I haven’t seen anything from them getting sent around, which surprises me.

dhgParticipantFor those who think it does not matter, this is how things will look without net neutrality:

RGParticipantSomeone forwarded this to me; it’s helpful in understanding what happened and what we can do about it:
http://www.savetheinternet.com/sti-home
“Dear Federal Communications Commission:
The D.C. Circuit’s decision in the Verizon case dealt a huge blow to the open Internet.
Right now there is no one protecting Internet users from ISPs that block or discriminate against websites, applications or services. Companies like Verizon will now be able to block or slow down any website, application or service they like. And they’ll be able to create tiered pricing structures with fast lanes for those who can afford the tolls and slow lanes for everyone else.
It’s time for the new FCC leadership to correct the agency’s past mistakes and to reassert the agency’s clear authority over our nation’s communications infrastructure. To preserve the open Internet, the FCC must reclassify broadband Internet access as a telecommunications service.
Use your authority to establish a solid legal footing for the vital policies and protections this court decision threatens.”

wakefloodParticipantAgreed and seconded. Let’s keep the public pressure on. If you haven’t signed a petition yet, please take a minute and do so?
