AnonymousInactiveThank you for responding. I respect your position.
It’s pretty much all of you against me (as the sole Rep on this forum), come fall.
I am not looking forward to this prospect.
You are all much more educated than I am, but I will promise to do my best.
May 15, 2008 at 2:10 am #618648
AnonymousInactiveEducation is over-rated. Curiosity and the desire to learn, is much more important. As well as being willing to challenge what we think we know. Every one who participates here is a part of that process and no *one* is more important than the other.

ErikParticipantJT – that’s one of the most intelligent posts I’ve seen on the political threads. One sign of intelligence is to be able to toss everything you believe about something and argue for the other side. Those with the most letters after their name usually have the toughest time with this concept as they’re usually invested in their beliefs more.
May 15, 2008 at 2:51 am #618650
beachdrivegirlParticipantI am also with JT on this one. :) And on a different note please keep posting I like the posts and debating and getting to think… am i wrong? or how do I defend my position??? etc.
And hey education is nothing. I have horrible grammar and let my emotions get to much of my posts 90% of the time.

JoBParticipantNewResident…
i certainly think you should keep posting.. but this link is far more than biased..
http://www.newsmax.com/newfront/connor_clinton_obama/2008/05/11/95144.html
And i am sure if i spend 5 minutes i would have no trouble finding several equally bad pieces of deduction based on flimsy connections against McCain…
The thing is.. all that is distracting and not worth anyone’s time.. even yours.
Nobody learns anything from it.
I didn’t dig to find the connections between the lobbyists that McCain employed in his campaign and abusive regimes.. it was in the news… because two of them were fired.. or resigned.
You probably didn’t hear much about it on FOX… and not as much as you should have from other news sources.. but it was news.
and apologizing wasn’t enough this time.
If i were you.. i would be looking for other ways to support John McCain than linking to those kinds of articles..
because his record of associations and abuses won’t stand up to that kind of scrutiny…
and the resulting backlash of posts will just aggravate you no end.
Besides being Republican… or more specifically.. not Democrat… what does John McCain actually stand for that you support?

JoBParticipantTonya..
“If the FBI were running a background check to verify Barack Obama’s application to be an agent …his “friends” as well as his overall background would disqualify him from holding the sensitive position”
What???????
Is this just a personal opinion?
because no group he has ever joined that i know of would disqualify him from FBI clearance…
As for his friends.. the FBI actually differentiates between friends and casual associations…
His work as a Illinios legislator wouldn’t bar him.. tho doing well there does require a certain bending of ethical standards…
His work as a US Seantor wouldn’t bar him… and he wasn’t barred from overseas travel based on a lack of clearance…
The schools he attended wouldn’t bar him from service.. in fact, the opposite is true.
so.. please explain.
Opinions are fine as long as you can back them with some kind of evidence…

AnonymousInactiveJoB – I have already admitted on this forum, several times, my lack of enthusiasm that McCain is our candidate.
I have already addressed the question as to *why* I am Republican.
I will vote for McCain because:
a) He is the Republican nominee
b) He’s no dummy
c) He has the experience that I think one should be required to have to run for President
Obviously, I could delve deeper into every issue, but I would rather people read my posts than just skim over them.
I know that Tonya42 can, obviously, answer for herself, however, the point that she made was a very good one and a legitimate one. Have you personally worked for the FBI? Are you familiar with their hiring process? I had a very good friend interview (extensively) for the FBI. I can tell you, based only on what I personally know, Obama would not meet the qualifications.

KenParticipantI envision a day when chickens can cross the road without having their intentions put into question.

AnonymousInactiveKen – Nice quote, however we are talking about the President of the United States, not chickens.
The prospective Commander in Chief’s “intentions” is what it’s all about.
May 15, 2008 at 8:16 pm #618656
JoBParticipantNew Resident..
as a matter of fact.. yes i am VERY familiar with the FBI screening process…
Please tell me just what it is you think Senator Obama has done that would actually stop him from passing their screening.
I agree.. he wouldn’t get past the current republican only filter.. but other than being a democrat…
and remember.. it’s isn’t what you suspect.. it’s what you actually know and can document that matters…
As for McCain…
neither Senator Clinton nor Senator Obama is a dummy..
In fact, when it comes time for debates with McCain… i think that will become abundantly clear.
both Senator Clinton and Senator Obama have experience in the same arena as Senator McCain. None of them has governor’s experience which is generally considered the most relevant.
Senator Clinton has had more exposure to the White House than Senator McCain… even in the last two republican administrations.. he has not exactly been an insider.
I will agree that he is Republican…

charlabobParticipantI’ll help you out here — this started with Daniel Pipes and crew, from the extreme right wing of the Jewish Lobby. (I’m a card carrying member of the left wing of the Jewish Lobby — you know, the ones who know what’s the real danger to our beloved state of Israel.)
Posting links still seems broken so look up Obama+Security Clearance and you’ll get a frightening eyeful. Meantime, look up Prescott Bush+Nazi and wonder how any Bush ever got in the front door of any government agency. :-)
May 15, 2008 at 8:35 pm #618658
AnonymousInactiveCharla, I was doing that earlier. No matter how I phrased key words, not a single reliable news source or any news for that matter, comes up. Just hit pieces from republican blogs. What really appalled me, was how many sights are promoting the Muslim terrorist angle. I genuinely thought it was the isolated fringe until now.
May 15, 2008 at 8:38 pm #618659
KayleighMemberI don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
May 15, 2008 at 8:43 pm #618660
charlabobParticipantHyperventilating works for me, KL ;-) Along with a whole bunch of screaming. It is still the isolated fringe. One of the reasons I’ve been looking at it is because I’m seriously involved with something called the J-street lobby; aligned with the peace movements here and in Israel. The right is getting shrill because they know they’re being found out. People are starting to understand who their real enemies are.
May 15, 2008 at 8:51 pm #618661
KayleighMemberIt’s just so disheartening, charla.
Here Obama is, an honorable man, even a touch noble and more than a little statesman-like. He’s touched millions of people who had given up on the political process–and done so in ways that people haven’t been touched since RFK and JFK.
He struggles to promote hope and unity and to rise above the political dirtiness, while Hillary and the bigots and the Angry Republican White Guys and Rev. Wright and god-knows-who-else reach up and pull him down.
And McCain, Angry Republican White Guy Who Pretends He’s Not Really Like That And Millions of People Believe Him, gets a free pass in the media, with the Independents, with the swing voters…
Un-frickin’-believable.
May 15, 2008 at 8:53 pm #618662
AnonymousInactiveIf it’s only what you “know” and can “document”, JoB, where is your documentation that he *would* have clearance?
Or, is just the fact that you claim to have extensive knowledge about this supposed to be enough?
There are so many suspect things with this guy that continuously get brushed off. Hopefully, we will learn even more about him in the months to come. And I don’t think it’s all going to be good.
May 15, 2008 at 8:57 pm #618663
AnonymousInactiveI don’t understand why, Kayleigh, you feel that it is okay to refer to McCain, even all Reps for that matter as “…..White guys….”.
Should I start referring to obama as the “inexperienced, untrustworthy black guy”?
Would that be okay with you?
I can’t believe that we get into this issue everyday.
May 15, 2008 at 9:00 pm #618664
charlabobParticipantNR, there’s a lot to overcome on your side :-)
Here’s a sad, funny story that sounds like something the left would do…except we didn’t: Limbaugh has been conducting “operation chaos” to bring chaos to the Dems by nominating Clinton. (hmmmm.) Anyway, this involves getting Repuglicans to change their registrations and vote for Clinton in the primary. So far so good — worked great in Mississippi — worked even greater (for our side) when, in the special election to fill Trent Lott’s seat, there weren’t enough Repugs left to vote in their candidate, so the Dem won.
May 15, 2008 at 9:01 pm #618665
AnonymousInactiveThe race, or gender, of any of the candidates holds no significance to me whatsoever.
Why do you continue to sell yourself short, and make this an issue about race?
I know that you know that this is a hot button with me and you are possibly just trying to “get” to me. It’s uncalled for and inappropriate.
May 15, 2008 at 9:02 pm #618666
AnonymousInactiveyeah, charla. I know what Rush was doing.
May 15, 2008 at 9:05 pm #618667
KayleighMemberNewRes, it’s best that you and I not talk about race. You have absolutely no cred with me on that subject.
May 15, 2008 at 9:08 pm #618668
AnonymousInactiveNR, here’s a start *In the 21st century, the so-called party of Lincoln does not have a single African-American among its collective 247 senators and representatives in Washington*.
May 15, 2008 at 9:13 pm #618669
KayleighMemberAnd…I am honestly not baiting you (not on purpose anyway). Peace.
May 15, 2008 at 9:44 pm #618670
JoBParticipantNewResident…
I am not the one who made the statement that Obama couldn’t get a security clearance.. and am not going to do the search to find the info…
I just stated that on the face of it, it is a difficult assertion to back.
if you know something worth repeating.. repeat it.
if not. then you can say anything you want to about anyone.. but it doesn’t do much for your credibility when you choose to back statements with the.. is so.. prove me wrong… defense.
May 15, 2008 at 10:48 pm #618671
AnonymousInactiveI’m certainly not going for credibility here. I think that is obvious, seeing as I am the only Republican on this forum.
But, on that note, how much credibility do Democrats expect to get when using false statements, twisting facts, and using racial slurs?
Just an FYI, JoB, you may be a heck of a lot more knowledgeable than me, but using personal stories to support your points of view, is not “backing” something up with facts.
I actually have a friend who currently works for the FBI. I have a friend that currently works in the CIA. It would be impossible to get any information regarding the inner workings of either agency. Therefore, no, there is no “document” that I can refer you to. However, I think the assertion made by Tonya42 was a very fair assessment.
I would suggest that before you so quickly jump to the Obama side of the fence (from, a week ago, being so busy bashing him), you should read through all your old Obama/Clinton threads. Because, even though you are doing the right thing to support your Democratic nominee, your previous posts only leave your current position to be somewhat discreditable.
And Kayleigh, vice versa.
