JoBParticipantWe seem to have west seattle food bank and Handbags for Hunger event posts scattered through several threads… so i thought i would give us a home for anyone who is interested in this discussion…
buried at the end of the Hillary posts (and i really have to protest burying Hillary in charity posts while starting a new Obama thread;)… are some comments about the many programs that the West Seattle food bank provides to those who come to them for food.. and links to their website.. worth looking over.
in another thread.. one i have forgotten the title of.. we were talking about a future possible dunk tank for a charitable cause.. and a challenge was raised.. and i think will be met.
No need to rub theHouse’s nose in it by requiring him to come through on his challenge publicly, but i do hope he comes to the event anyway to hear for himself… we could all benefit by knowing more about the resources in our community and i can’t wait to meet his wife.
I do have a big request for help…
most of us know a woman or two who loves handbags. i think we are going to have a fair number of pretty amazing handbags at this event. Please email her to let her know about this… i already emailed my daughter-in-law:)
word of mouth is apparently a very effective tool in this internet age:) please help me use it.
it’s for a great cause.

JenVMemberI can’t wait, JoB! I have put the word out to my purse loving friends as well as my beer loving friends! I am liking this idea of a dunk tank, though…House- did you still wish to donate for a good cause?

JoBParticipantthis just in my mailbox from Pete Spalding of the West Seattle Food Bank…
“I just read the entry on the West Seattle blog about the event this Sunday at the Beverage Place Pub. YOU FOLKS ROCK!!!!
I am the president of the Board of Directors for the West Seattle Food Bank and we could not open our doors everyday to help our neighbors who are hungry if it were not for the kindness and generosity of folks like you.
From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.”
he and his wife will try to stop by on Sunday…
I speak for everyone working on this when i say that you are the ones who rock.. you the readers and WSB forum members… This was just an idea until everyone responded so positively…
i really am looking forward to this event!

JoBParticipantIt’s amazing to me how helpful to me how helpful strangers have been..
in my mailbox this morning.. paul.. who donated the original purses.. let us know that he has asked to have the event mentioned at the chamber of commerce luncheon today.
thank you… this is turning out to be much more a cooperative forum members event than our little group of 6 would indicate.
March 11, 2008 at 5:42 pm #618283
JanSParticipantdoes this mean we’ll have to join the chamber now? ;-)
I’m glad it’s happening…hey..think of all the business we’re giving the pub, too…a side effect :)

AnonymousInactiveJoB – Can you guys post the specifics of the event here? Or maybe there is a link for me to follow? I am curious about the start time and what is involved/required if I have a bag to donate to the auction. Thank you!

andreaParticipantI posted this on the main page, but thought I would add it here as well in case it gets lost among the posts: I went through my closet last night and I have approx 8-10 purses/handbags that I will contribute on Sunday…let me tell you I had no idea I had that many hiding back in there, but I am so glad I did so now I can add them to the auction (they are all relatively unused (2 have never been used) and therefore spiffy clean and ready to wear :0). see you all on Sunday!

addParticipantVery cool how this has all come together – thanks for making it happen! I will do my best to stop by with/for a few items…

SueParticipantI arranged for the event to be advertised in the weekly “eNews” email that goes out to all members and friends of the West Seattle Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Wednesdays – since our congregation deals with social action and charitable issues in the community and beyond (among other things), I thought that it would be the perfect place to mention it and get some exposure. I just got the eNews and it was mentioned there with a link to the main blog article with info.

JanSParticipantthanks, Sue…that’s great…we appreciate it :)

WSBKeymasterAssuming nothing has changed with this – someone let me know if anything has; I’m plugging it on the home page in a post scheduled to go up in about an hour for late-night site-related notes (along with the Metroblogs contest).
March 13, 2008 at 4:27 am #618292
JoBParticipantthank you.. nothing has changed but something has been added… it appears that top directors from both the West Seattle Food Bank and the Seattle Dress for Success plan to attend.. and perhaps to shop…
and we have had at least one inquiry from a member who wants to bring other bags.. such as book bags and the like.. so we may have something to offer the fellas after all.
I picked up the first lot of bags today.. and there are definately some high end bags in this group!
