I’ve only lived near the Alaska Junction for a little over a year now, but I’ve noticed a major increase in sirens lately. I know living down the street from a firehouse invites a certain level of noise pollution, but lately, it’s sounded like the whole of West Seattle is crumbling. I can’t even sleep some nights because of the sirens blaring every other hour, and the loud-engine-assholes gunning it down the street in between. Has anyone else noticed an increase in fire/police activity over the past couple of months? Is there any reason for the increased emergency activity? I know I can’t blame them for just doing their jobs and trying to save lives, but sometimes it gets to the point that I just want to scream for them to turn off the damn sirens.

Almost all the sirens you hear are SFD, primarily medical responses. And one medical response may result in a double round of sirens, first for the SFD units, then if it’s not a life-threatening matter but does result in a hospital evaluation, an AMR ambulance will respond. The daily SFD Real-Time 911 log will show you their responses (there is no SPD counterpart):

Delleios, It’s not your imagination. Like you, I started realizing an uptick that kept getting more frequent and seemingly louder. Something has definitely changed.

Housing is a challenge so to say just move I know it’s not that simple. There have been times when I have considered moving to a new apt. and then see there is a fire station nearby and decide against it. The Junction is a noisy place on occasion with the summer fest, etc. I would not choose to live there. Hopefully the good outweighs the bad for you.
