mcluvnParticipantSomeone told me I could find a scoby at Whole Foods, but I do not want to take my business there. Thought I would try here, before going to Craigslist.
Anyone? Anyone?
:)
Thanks!

SueParticipantI believe you can get one at Chaco Canyon (38th & Alaska).

Fermented tea who would have thought.

mcluvnParticipantHa! It’s very good.. you should try it sometime. :)
Thanks, Sue. I did end up getting one today from Chaco Canyon. They were a great help, super friendly there too. I had not been in there before.

mcluvnParticipantWell, the scoby is what you use to start the kombucha–there’s a whole process to it for sure! LOL!
You can buy pre-made, bottled kombucha from some stores. Maybe those will appeal more to you visually?
But remember, we’re not supposed to judge a drink by its goop. Right? Something like that. :D

drParticipantAt the West Seattle Farmers Market on Sundays there used to be someone from a Kombucha company I think called Communitea or something like that, they sell their kombucha as well as the starter kits for making it yourself.

biankatParticipantMy friends have one on the top of their fridge. It’s about a year old. It’s FREAKY looking. I thought it was a preserved human organ. Or snake-like creature.

DBPMemberHasn’t this poor dog been found yet? I thought someone said they had it trapped in their yard.

JanSParticipantfunny thing about kombucha…my ex and I acquired a scoby (it’s a fungus) about 30 years ago…made kombucha tea for a few years in a big gallon jar. Not sure it did anything for me. Daughter thought it tasted bad – lol. We did this for a while and then tired of it…and there were many stories abounding that what we were drinking was tainted because it was being grown under less than sanitary circumstances. And history repeats itself, and now it’s a big deal again…

DBPMemberJan, please try to take this in the right spirit. You know I just wanna help out, right?
But I hope to God you are not saying things like this on the dating sites. And especially not CL.

DBPMemberNo really. I’m ‘in the business’ as they say, and I’ve been advising clients on this for years.
Drop the scoby thing. Because, trust me, if you leave it in there, that’s ALL people are gonna see.
It won’t matter if you are a knock-out software exec. It won’t matter if you got a luxury yacht and are just looking for someone to drop you off at ARuba.
They’ll get to the word “fungus” and then: BOOM! out go the lights.
If you feel like you have to put it in there for ethical reasons leave it till the very end. And then say it like this:
“There’s something unique and interesting about me and I can’t wait to tell that special person what it is.”
(Use those exact words.)
