Looking for a group to toss the frisbee around with for some regular exercise and fresh air. Highland Park playground field, or maybe Riverview. Skill level: I can often reach my intended person and can often catch. I miss plenty, too. :) Ultimate would be nifty, too, but easy-going-like. Anyone out there?

I work at home days, so midday in the winter months when it’s still light is also possible. Flexible about timing.

If there’s already a group, would someone let me know? Many thanks.

I don’t play it, but did you guys know there is a disc golf course in WC – just so of the county line a few blocks I’ve heard?

^^ That disc golf course is outstanding, my personal favorite in the Seattle area. I prefer the front nine but the whole course is great.

    alice turtles,

That sounds like fun. I would be up for it at Highland Park playground field. I can easily walk there. Weekdays would be OK for me at least until I get a job (my situation is similar to being “on-call,” so as long as my cell phone works, I’m ready). Spring and/or the early signs of spring envigorate me.

Skill level: dunno anymore. I liked Frisbee for a while when I was twenty, but I haven’t thrown one for a while other than a chew toy for my dogs inside my house, and before that, I threw a dog Frisbee for one of my dogs in my yard. I did less damage to my house with the Frisbee than I did with a Kong Biscuit Ball. I hope I still have my four Frisbees in various weights (119 grams to 181 grams, I think… I think my favorite was 141 grams) somewhere.

Athletic level: I’m getting a little long in the tooth (51), but I was the best runner in my school, I didn’t get fat, and I think I am still spry. :)

The disc golf course looks great, but I want to put together a group that doesn’t cost anyone money to attend, and the pdga is paid membership only. Want to join us for something more casual? Who else is free during weekdays? Need not be long — a half hour? 45 minutes?

I would probably be up for it, if it was super casual. I played ultimate for four years in college but I’ve gotten pretty out of shape since. I could definitely join in some tossing at least!

Disc golf courses are free to play at, you just have to have a disc or discs, no membership required. It’s a very laid back sport compared to ball golf.

I found my old Frisbees. I have three “World Class” Frisbees: one 97 gram (I don’t like that one… too small), one 119 gram (that one is probably closest in size to a generic Frisbee), and one 141 gram (my favorite… a little bit bigger and heavier than a generic Frisbee).

    RS,

I am mainly interested because a long time ago, Frisbee was fun briefly, and the Highland Park playfield is close to where I live now. I’m not interested in competition at this point in my life/career, but it would be fun to “play catch” on a nice day.

“Super Casual” is what I’m aiming for. Just toss it around a bit, see if it’s fun, and if it is, we can many start a “Getting Back To It” type group going into spring and summer, with Ultimate as entirely possible (later, when we’re past getting winded in 10 minuutes, eh?)

I’m *thinking* about Tuesdays at noon, Highland Park Playground field, meeting by the brick house there. Anyone here besides me and Scott good with that? I’d like to slowly build up, but I’m hoping to start with more than two. :) Who’s up for trying that, at least once?

Austin, you say the golf course is FREE? That’s really cool. I looked at the site and didn’t get that at all, so wow, yeah, I’m tempted, all right. I mean, golf isn’t nearly as challenging as Ultimate with a bunch of really good players. :) Yeah!

If it’s really truly free, we could put together a golf game on some weekend day (Saturday midday during winter, and later or earlier during summer?) and I would show up for that — maybe even drag some weekend-only folks along. You want to try to put that together?

I’m going to start modest and see if I can get a few people to show up once a week at Highland Park, a casual — excuse me: SUPER CASUAL :) — group first. Maybe we can raise our game later. Want to join us?

Scott, I hope your definition of “nice day” is flexible. :)

Sorry guys, I work too far away to join you during the day on week days. Let me know if you ever do summer evenings or weekends!

    We have > 1 person! That’s nearly a team! :)

Thee is a “go” for Tue at noon. Now, it SAYS “rain likely” for tue, but I can be weather-tough if you can. Still, what’s your preference: Tue no matter what, or Thu as a backup (it says sun for Thu, but that’s 4 days away, so who knows?)

And who else is a “go” for this week? Let’s plan on 30 or 45 minutes of disky-ness, and see if we can make it a regular thing. Anyone else in?

RS: I’m happy to do weekends and evenings (in summer). We just need to get a regular group of diskies going. Super Casual like. :)

I wonder how soggy the Highland Park field is at this time of year. That’s not a big deal personally because it’s not far away, so I can get warmed up and cleaned up at home fairly quickly. I have some old softball shoes in the closet that I would probably bring/wear, but they are just cheap, thin plastic (and low-mileage… LOL).

Like alice turtles said: Super Casual like. :)

Tuesday, February 10 has an expected high of 40 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Seattle Times website weather link. That’s probably too cold for me.

The same website projects an expected high of 45 degrees Fahrenheit for Thursday, February 12. That’s better, but still kinda cold.

I’ll check for responses either via PM or this thread, and if anyone else says he/she will be there, I’ll show up. I’ll be a skinny old guy with three Frisbees and an extra pair of shoes.

It seems like it would be more fun in the temperature range of fifty degrees to seventy degrees, but I don’t know personally, and maybe we won’t know until we try it.

Okay, sorry for the late reply — I’ll try to do better in the future! I swear!

I agree that today is COLD, and we don’t want to discourage ourselves this early. SO — let’s NOT do today, but go for Thursday which looks very nice.

That’s Thursday, 2/12, noon, at Highland Park. Y’all with me?

Tomorrow, Thursday, noon. Weather looks good and I have disks. Meet by the brick building. I’ll be the woman standing around looking sullen. I mean, carrying frisbees. :)

Remember, it’s super casual. No “I’m too out of shape for this” excuses — it’ll be fun.

    See you there!

Okay, so there I was, this sunny warm day, in the middle of the grassy field, PLAYING WITH MYSELF. Not nearly as much fun as playing with someone else!

Who can make it next time? This coming TUESDAY — baring bad weather — noon?

Would it help get more people there if I offered this as a class? FRISBEE FOR THE COMPLETE BEGINNER! I could even teach computer literacy as well. “Hold the frisbee like this and — look for the lock icon in the lower right corner!” :)

Time time window is 15 minutes. I run around, play with my own frisbee, balance on the balance beam and generally carry on until a quarter after, then I go home if no one shows up. Let me know if the time isn’t good for you, eh?

    alice turtles,

I am quitting the WSB Forums, and I hadn’t read in disgust (not at you) for several days.

Good luck with your Frisbee fun.

Well, this isn’t at all encouraging, but I’ll try one last time this season: ANYONE interested in weekday frisbee in Highland Park?

So ANYONE showing up today? Tell me soon, or I’m tabling this until Spring. (Sigh!)
