I’m unhappy about 1.5 mps download and much slower upload speeds of my current internet service provider. Suggestions re internet only service (no TV, or phone service) at at least 3.0 mps download speed at a reasonable price would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Love em or hate em – Comcast is really the best bang for the buck. 3.0 mps may seem like a huge upgrade to you, but you will likely soon be disappointed and looking for more speed. Expect to pay around $50 per month for 12-15 mps. Quite adequate for most things right now.

Our household has used Comcast for the past decade and love it. We also added their phone service several years ago, and are equally happy with that service.

Comcast is more than happy to sell you one service such as just internet.

We are in the midst of a head-to-head comparison. Qwest, years after allegedly running a fiber line to our neighborhood, FINALLY announced it had broadband available, and offered a deal for a few months. Since online-access redundancy is critical for our home-based business, we figured at the very least it couldn’t hurt to have both Qwest and our longtime provider, Comcast (as well as three flavors of wireless – Verizon, Sprint, AT&T) through the winter and then decide who to drop. So far Qwest is just as good as Comcast has been, if not better, plus it doesn’t have the usage limit that C’cast has been warning about (not that we’d ever surpassed said limit). If we had to choose right now, we’d probably take Qwest because its delivery into our home seems via a more stable source in case of catastrophe. (Funny thing is that we’d dropped our land lines long ago; we had for a while had a second one just for our computer in the days of dial-up!)

I’m delighted to see QWEST (finally) moving into Comcast territory. Hopefully the competitive forces of the marketplace will now kick in and Comcast will be forced to bring its rates back down to earth.

If that doesn’t happen, well . . . I guess we’ve been hoodwinked about this whole capitalism thing.

    Again.

Quest. See if you can find a deal from them.

Choices are still very limited depending on where you live. I’ve got friends on Alki who STILL cannot get a decent speed from DSL (too far from the switch). Comcast is their only choice. Elsewhere, even when you think you’ve a non-qwest DSL the chances are good the Qwest is providing the loop so it’s hard to get away from them.
