Roots of Empathy at Lafayette Elementary: Looking for new babies/families!
Next year all third grade classrooms at Lafayette Elementary will again be apart of Roots of Empathy. This social and emotional learning program builds caring, peaceful, and civil societies – child by child – through the development of empathy in children.
At the heart of the program are classroom visits by an infant and parent. Through guided observations of this loving relationship, children learn to identify and reflect on their own thoughts and feelings and those of others (empathy). Research on the Roots of Empathy program has shown that children who have the program know more about emotions and feelings, and kinder to their finders and less aggressive than those who do not have Roots of Empathy. Visit http://www.rootsofempathy.org to learn more.
The plan is to continue to offer this program to all third grade classrooms at Lafayette. We need three new babies/families to join the program and be in each of our third grade classrooms.
If you are a new parent of a baby born in July or August and are interested/available to come to the school once a month for 40 minutes, please contact Linda Filley Bentler at Lfilleybentler@psesd.org or call her at (425) 917-7763.
Thank you!
