Tips still need to be reported. There is a deduction that can be taken when filing taxes but they are not tax free outright. In my experience, there is always an option to enter a ‘custom’ amount. No one is required to leave a specific amount except in certain cases where tip is added by the establishment, for a large group, etc. Starbucks has the tip options and the option of no tip. Who cares who is watching, I’m not tipping someone who stands in one place and is simply doing their job. Tips are for above and beyond what is expected. And, it shouldn’t be an excuse by employers for not paying a living wage.

I agree with you. I also find it uncomfortable to have to enter the tip while the waitperson stands there watching. In some cases, you’re asked to enter a tip while you order and pay at a counter where not only is there no table service, but the food hasn’t even arrived yet. If the purpose of a tip is to reward good food and service, how does this make sense? In some restaurants, patrons seat themselves and are then required to order via an app connected to a QR code at the table, and the “waitstaff” essentially operate as table runners. And yet they still expect a full tip. A former Junction fave of mine adopted this model, and I haven’t been back since (they also then served burned fish & chips cooked in dirty oil, so…) We definitely need some new rules around tipping.

There is a elderly woman who walks the neighborhood and Hiawatha Park, throwing food from a bag feeding the crows. Mind you, this also feeds the squirrels and other vermin….

This is not healthy for the people who live nearby. All these animals can fend for themselves. By feeding them you are encouraging them to live nearby. Crows dive-bomb people when they have young in the nest. Rats and raccoons are a menace to human health. Crows are also loud. My son was dive bombed by a crow – it cut open his head and he had to get a tetanus shot. We have witnessed many people get a “fly by” very close, it’s alarming and not safe.

Please stop. If you see her, please ask her to stop. We have asked many times. It’s usually early morning as I think she’s afraid of too many people witnessing this bad behaviour.

Looking for someone who loves to run and loves to talk about running. You don’t need anything but a passion for the sport, we will teach you everything else. A retail background would be great, but it isn’t necessary. Your job will be to sell shoes and apparel, stock shelves, keep the store clean, and help customers find the right product. Be able to start and hold a conversation, as that is basic skill for sales. Shy, wall flower types will probably not like the atmosphere, as we require you to start and maintain customer interactions.
We are looking for a full time person 30-40 hours a week, and a part time person 2-3 days a week. Both positions will include one weekend day at least. These are long term positions, at least 6 months or longer, as it takes a while to get trained and able to be help customers independently. Pay starts at $20.00 but is negotiable based on experience. We also offer bonuses based on store sales. PTO accumulation starts the day you start. We also have an employee discount, and a separate family discount. Free race entries for all races we sponsor, and it’s a pretty cool atmosphere to work in, as most customers are happy to be here.

Please drop off a resume in person at the store. We do not respond to emailed resumes unless we have directed you to send it.

The interview will be done during a 3 mile run, so if you get called back, be ready to tell us your favorite 3 mile route! Don’t worry about pace, we will keep it slow (11-12 minute miles) so we can chat.

If you have questions, please drop in and ask them.

This man was turning into the parking lot at the West Seattle Nursery as I was leaving and apparently thought I was slightly over the middle line or something? (I don’t think I was, but that seemed like the perceived slight).

It was very unclear if he was planning to let me leave first so he could have all the space to enter or was going to enter (he of course coming from the street had the right of way), but I could see him making faces in the turning lane, seemed upset out of the corner of my eye, as we both waited for passing cars to leave a clearance to turn in and out of the parking lot. The faces started as cars drove by with no opening to turn, maybe he was just pissed I wasn’t just dangerously jutting out into oncoming traffic rapidly, so that he could enter? He then pretty quickly drove in at the first opportunity, (I’m glad I didn’t think he was letting out in or it would have been a crash).

At which point he stops next to me in the driveway instead of continuing into the parking lot. My windows are all down because it’s HOT, my newborn is in the car (this is our first outing postpartum) and our AC isn’t yet flowing enough. This man is SCREAMING at me. Saying who knows what, definitely full of profanities as he can see AND hear my newborn daughter behind the drivers seat crying – a small baby crying as he feels emboldened to scream at me. Again over what?? There clearly was room for him to turn in because he’s doing that as he screams at me.

Against all good judgement I know, I decided turn around to go back. To ask him in what world he thinks it’s ok to scream at a mom as her baby cries over that no less? Stupid, I know. After getting out with daughter in the car seat and putting the carseat in the stroller I saw the man right next to the parking lot looking at plants. I approached him to try to speak about what just happened, to which he immediately gets in my face about a centimeter or less nose nose while wagging his finger right by my eye screaming that he doesn’t care and saying who knows what screaming in my face. I continue to tell him to get out of my face, after way too long he finally does. I then make clear I am a new mom, out for the first time it is insane and incredibly shitty to speak to someone like they did/are, ever, over what again?! And to do it while you can see a child in the backseat and it’s a baby crying?! How shitty. A man, can’t even have a child, has no idea what it’s like, treating a new mom like that? To which he keeps screaming at me he doesn’t care along with profanities.

A younger man he is clearly with, 30s or so, who I hadn’t seen in the car, who confirmed when I asked if he’s the man’s son, but otherwise had said nothing, then starts to go on about how they waited for me for “so long” to turn. (Patently untrue, but also would that make it all ok…??). And he might have seemed classy just with a crazy dad, they both seemed well dressed, not seemingly on meth or anything else that might explain their behavior, just them being them. Then immediately after I stated I’m a new mom, the son, without pause, says to me that I’m “just a fat bitch.”

The comment didn’t bother me but the shittiness of people, that they would say that to attempt to insult, just the general shitty complete lack of humanity and entitlement of men, who could never handle anything women go through, to treat a woman with her newborn that way, does bother me, to a large degree.

After that the older man tried to come towards me again. I moved the stroller an inch forward to block him, the wheel hit up against his toe and the son starts shouting I assaulted him. The son begins recording me with his phone – to which I point out that’s not legal w/o consent in Washington, to stop. He goes on about how he’s going to get my daughter taken away from me that I used the stroller like that while claim to care about my daughter on and on (my daughter is of course fine, as is the man’s toe. He was not nor does he seem harmed and is busy wandering still with his very scraggly small dog as he is shouting the same insults at me as before, not hurt or in pain. The son continued to claim he can record because it’s a public place (not the law) and claiming I assaulted his dad.

A Good Samaritan woman tried to cut in saying to them, “just leave her alone she’s with her child.” To which the son said she assaulted him. To which I said only after you called me a fat bitch. Obviously not helping anything. The woman is now seemingly just confused probably by the trashiness of this all and encourages us to just separate. I do walk away at that point. Stood in the parking lot for a moment just fuming. Then the old man comes out through the front building, one car away from mine. I put the carseat in the car. Then get in the car myself. I see his son then come out and they sit in the car for a moment. I’m debating if it’s safer to just leave or wait for them to leave first. I decide to just leave.

I’m upset after this all of course. First day out postpartum with our second child and that happens. After I got home and we discussed it, my husband stopped in after to see if they could give any information about the man, name etc. They did not but said the man came in before leaving to complain I was “blocking him in in the parking lot.” Again, just categorically untrue.

Stay away from this man if you see him. Or please kick him in the shin in a way that actually hurts on my behalf.

    Hello,

I’m looking to create some unique bottles for cups, steins, candle holders, desk containers, and more. I have about 15 glass bottles, and I was wondering if anyone in West Seattle could and would cut the tops off for me.

I’m looking to make something similar to the products on this Etsy page, but with my own bottles.

Here is the ETSY shop that I’m drawing the inspiration from for reference:

(https://www.etsy.com/shop/RecycledToUpcycled/) Hope to hear from whoever can help!

    Thanks!

No, not a requirement. However, it’s a sign of the “me first” mentality and the “I’m special, you’re not” mentality that’s invaded people’s brains. Name a traffic violation and you’ll see it violated daily men and women of ALL ages driving every vehicle under the sun. It’s common for me, and other drivers to wait at a green light because “special” pedestrians felt entitled to ignore the do not walk signal. I see bike riders violate traffic laws that are on the books covering bike riders. Will anything change? NOPE. Why? Because the people ignoring the law are certain they’re entitled to do so and ALL the close calls/accidents are caused by “those other bad people” certainly not the finger pointers.

Seen it happen three times, all in a short period of time.

First time a car slowed down at an intersection as the light changed from yellow to red. The car behind it crossed the double yellow line into the oncoming lane and gunned it to pass and blow through the red light!

Second time the car at the front of the intersection wouldn’t go when the light turned green. Just sat there for 10 seconds until a car in the intersecting lane ran the red light. It was just going regular speed too, wasn’t gunning it to beat the light or anything. It was like the first car knew this was going to happen.

Third time the car was also going at normal speed. Light turned red, driver wasn’t anywhere close to the intersection but didn’t even attempt to slow down. Just casually crossed the intersection like it was still green.
