New burger place on the way to eastern West Seattle

zippyburger.jpg

Thanks to Karol I for e-mailing this tip, which we confirmed via business-license records as well as this spot on MySpace:

Just a few words on a new business is coming to a part of Seattle which has few food places. Blaine and Rahel Cook are in the process of changing that.

Zippy’s Giant Burgers is coming to 16th and Holden about May 1, 2008. They are busy cleaning, painting and arranging the new furniture which they have carefully selected for their new venture. I am sure that they will be doing well, in particular since I will be one of their first customers.

Here’s a map of that location (street address 1513 SW Holden).

Awesome! Now if we could just get a starbucks and a meth-head humane trap system, we’d be golden.

  • JumboJim April 13, 2008 (10:36 am)

Yes! Look out for a super-size, now-even-more-jumbo JumbJim in your neighborhood…

Zippy’s is a famous restaraunt chain in Hawai’i that’s been around for 50 years.

  • G. Williams April 13, 2008 (10:57 am)

Sweet! I look forward to trying it out, especially since it’s walking distance.

Love their name. Hope they do well. Does this mean the teriyaki place that was there is gone? Hate to see one replace the other.

  • WSB April 13, 2008 (11:31 am)

Jig, we thought of Zippy’s too, as former Honolulu residents. This appears to be no relation.

On an only vaguely related note: Anyone know what is going into the spot down on 17th by the Taqueria Guaymas (17th and Roxbury). It was briefly painted bright green and was a restaurant called Mi Bohio. They closed and yesterday I spotted some folks repainting the building with a musical motif (notes on a staff, keyboard keys, etc).

Funny, I thought I’d seen a permit go by for that during the “daily issuance reports” but I just checked the address and there’s nothing new. Will keep an eye out.

LOL (with…@ is so rude) AReader! Agreed! Shut up and eat!

Note to WSB: maps.google.com is MUCHO better than MapQuest(togetyoulost).com

I’ll start fasting now so I can binge as soon as you guys open! Congrats!!!

Also the name reminds me of the zippy the pinhead comic, which is one of my favorites…

  • WSB April 14, 2008 (9:51 am)

We are Zippy the Pinhead fans too. As Patrick (co-publisher/Sales Guy) quipped when I told him about this — “Yow!”

Have any of you former Honolulu-ites ever had macadamia nut pancakes at Boots & Kimo’s in Kailua. I dream about the macadamia nut sauce on fluffy light banana pancakes…

  • charlabob April 14, 2008 (12:25 pm)

My favorite zippyism — “Reality is not the sandwich I ordered.”

Charlabob extension — want fries with that?

  • Jiggers April 14, 2008 (1:30 pm)

I miss Zippy’s Chili in Hawai’i as well as their ZipPac’s–a bento box combined with chicken, spam, teriyaki meat and plenty of rice with furakaki on top of da rice. So Ono!!

Aha, a new clue to the identity of the elusive Jiggers — some sort of ties to Hawaii! Perhaps we will listen more closely for a tiny hint of a pidgin accent next time we are in The Junction. Took quite a few years for us to lose our ‘accent,’ and we only lived there four years.

  • Jiggers April 14, 2008 (3:58 pm)

WSB—yes, I haven’t lost my accent since I moved here 12 years ago. That’s the first thing you notice about me in a casual setting, but when I’m in a professional enviornment, I have to put the pidgin in my back pocket. I can adapt myself persona in many different ways. I can sound educated if I want to or just plain lolo..

I’m actually in Honolulu right now. Spent the weekend up on North Shore for a friend’s birthday. Our beach party was broken up by gangbangers high on “ice” and out for blood. Loved living here as a kid, but Hawaii is not the same to me now. :(

  • HighlandParker April 23, 2008 (7:04 pm)

Sad to see Mi Bohio leave as the food was pretty good. As much as I adore Vietnamese food (we’re at 88 weekly & they are programmed into my cell!), a little more variety was fantastic. Not sure what is in there now. Will there be any other developments for this side of WS? Like an independent coffee shop? (boooo to Starbucks)

Last thing….will Zippy’s really have veg burgers & soy cheese?! PLEEEASSSE!!!!

  • Rizz May 2, 2008 (10:47 am)

    HAIL ZIPPY’S!!!!!
Keepin’ it REAL on the Wes’ Side!!!!
    Ozz & I are THERE… TONITE!!!!
Thinking Thermo, Diamond, and families will be dining @ Zippy’s this evening in fact!
Having attended numerous BBQ, and parties @ the owner’s home, I am STOKED!
    A. Blaine can throw down… and
    B. Zippy’s is just what we so desperately need to fill West Seattle’s “burger joint” void.
    Again…
    HAIL ZIPPY’S!!!!!

I’m always looking for a good burger especially in West Seattle so I was very anxious to try Zippys. It is small and there is a lack of seating but the burgers are quite tasty. Unfortunately, mine was almost raw in the center and so about 1/3rd of the burger could not be eaten. Since I bought mine to-go I did not feel like driving back with child in tow to complain. Next time (if I return) I’ll eat it there and make sure it is thoroughly cooked!

Sorry, comment time is over.
