West Seattle Halloween 2009: Trick or Treat at The Junction

The costumed Junction businessfolk participating in Trick or Treat at The Junction – on till 3 pm – are as much fun to see as the kids. Maybe more. Above, the crew we found outside Windermere (where current listings include advertised-on-WSB 10419 18th SW). Next, outside West 5 – the candy crew includes recently feted bartender Jo-Ann (right):

Hutchison’s West Seattle-residing opponent in the King County Executive race, County Council Chair Dow Constantine, will be in The Junction tomorrow for one last big campaign bash – 4 pm Sunday @ West 5. As for Halloween – events into the wee hours are all listed here. Next trick-or-treating event, Westwood Village, 4-7 pm. And if you’re in the south-of-Admiral area, The Swinery is giving out bacon caramels:

So much fun, though we heard a number of people saying they wish there were actually FEWER distributors and/or directional arrows to encourage a more fluid flow of traffic.

I REALLY wish they would consider closing off the 2 main blocks of California for this. Traffic is always a mess anyway… So it wouldn’t make that much of a difference…

I agree – I was down in the area today and it took me forever to get through the Oregon/California intersection, where I had to turn right. I didn’t mind the wait because it’s fun to watch the kids, but the interplay of vehicles and all those kids seemed unsafe to me. Turns were especially challenging, thanks to the pedestrians who seem to think the red hand means to hurry up and leap into the intersection at the last minute!

As a former proofreader I am with you in one respect but in another … while I can spell with 99.9% spellcheck-free accuracy but if you asked me to make a caramel – let alone craft bacon from raw pork – it would be total FAIL …

It was a lot of fun- though, yes, I agree that traffic should be closed for the 2 blocks, or at least no- on street parking with some sort of barricade so you don’t walk out into traffic.

or make a rule- not strollers or dogs ;)
we learned last year what a hassle a stroller is for that function, so I was guilty once too.

and people – pay attention to traffic . crazy people out there. we had one family (mom and dad) drag their 2 girls out into the intersection to cross diagonally, AFTER the walk all ways had ENDED and after light had turned green for people to continue east on Alaska. collecting candy isn’t worth risking your life.

oh and another crazy person was actually waiting in the middle of an intersection for a parking spot to open up. causing grief for people in both directions. get a freakin clue. I felt bad for the poor woman trying to load all her kids in the car so the spot would open up.

that’s funny; I was so focused on bacon candy & drooling, didn’t even notice sign with half words spelled wrong; any chance it was on purpose, for some mysterious halloweeny reason?

I would have to agree about the direction of what way we should all be going so we aren’t running into each other! That was WAY crazy my lil one wasn’t able to get to the ones passing out the candy because people were going one way to get the candy while someone is trying to squeeze by so we weren’t able to collect as much….But I mean really that dosent matter since hes 2 and 1/2 BUT! It was still crazy but a lot of fun!! Thank You sooooo much!!

there were many outstanding and very cute costumes; this was cutest homemade one I saw (and perhaps I was drawn to this because I do on-call child care with babies & young children, and ALL my little boys love, love, love Thomas the Train

I completely agree that directional arrows would make a huge improvement for next year. Trick or treating at the Junction is fun, but it’s also a major cluster and ended up being stressful for us and our toddler towards the end. Having everyone go in one big loop would really help out a lot.
