I don’t know what had happened but it was me and my mom taking out the trash and I heard the cops telling people to go inside I live here this is scary

  • Jojo December 4, 2024 (11:21 pm)

I hope they catch whoever did this. Almost every night for the past couple of months, someone’s been shooting off an AR. Nothing has been done yet so I really hope they find out what’s going on.

    • Low Point December 5, 2024 (12:04 am)

How do you know it’s an AR?

      • D December 5, 2024 (6:54 am)

        Probably because it’s scary sounding.

      • Guy December 5, 2024 (8:17 am)

        Does it matter?

      • AJ December 5, 2024 (11:36 am)

        Seriously….does it really matter?

      • Ly December 5, 2024 (9:16 pm)

Why does it matter how they know or not. Read the room.

    • WSzombie December 5, 2024 (8:17 am)

@jojo Your assumption about someone “shooting off an AR” is as bold of a presumption as me saying, “you have no idea what an AR sounds like”. I don’t know you, so maybe you do know. But I won’t make that assumption since I don’t know you. However, I DO KNOW what an AR sounds like, I was in the military, I’ve owned “ARs” in the past, and I have NOT heard any small caliber rifles fired in the past 6 months. Please don’t  scare people into thinking there are a massive amount of criminals running around with a rifle. That’s not safe, and quite rationally, unrealistic.

      • All guns are only for killing December 5, 2024 (11:43 am)

Again, who cares what type of gun? And yes it is ridiculous for a civilian to own an assault rifle but guess what, in this country they do. – I am also a Veteran although irrelevant to this conversation

      • CarDriver December 5, 2024 (11:50 am)

Downplaying gunshots-regardless of caliber or type does nothing to help anybody-except those that want to shoot.

      • DaveDufor December 9, 2024 (10:23 pm)

Oh stop. Really? Gun violence is known to be prevalent in High Point and people should be scared. This is the second child to die by gun violence within a mile radius of High Point in the past year. Guns are discharged in and around Walt Hudley Park and Delridge almost weekly.ENOUGH. You should be pissed instead of scolding someone.

Multiple police units searching area and making announcements over loud speaker for people to stay in their homes while they search area.

  • UnKnown December 5, 2024 (3:57 am)

They need to finish up the pictures soon.. the flashlights are stressing me out.

    • Derp December 5, 2024 (8:04 am)

Are you serious!!! A teenager has died and all you are worried about is yourself.  Wow,  maybe you need to very some help or just move away from here.

    • Anne December 5, 2024 (8:10 am)

You probably wrote this just to get a reaction-so I’ll oblige-just pull the covers over your head & go back to your uncaring-selfish world.

    • HP December 5, 2024 (8:40 am)

A person was killed and you are complaining about the flashlights?

      • Yma December 5, 2024 (10:39 am)

The poster may might have meant they were scared & hoped they found the shooter soon

        • UnKnown December 5, 2024 (3:22 pm)

That is what I meant! I didn’t know the person who got shot died. Condolences for their family.

  • Jen December 5, 2024 (6:02 am)

King5 is reporting that he passed away at the hospital. I cant imagine what his family is going through.

  • LJJ December 5, 2024 (7:46 am)

I just wanted to jump into the comments to say how sorry I am that all of you had to go through what must have been a terrifying and unsettling experience, hearing gunshots, being told to stay in your homes, and seeing the investigation take place… You all deserve to be a feel safe in your neighborhood. I’m also sorry for the loss that friends and family are now faced with, with the death of this child. I also have a 15 year old – losing him would be too much. Thinking of this child’s parents, whoever you are.

    • Una River December 7, 2024 (1:01 am)

I personally know the family… a few hours ago visited his sister (who lives in the same bldg as myself). The family is devastated. I am heartbroken 😢💔. The boy who died, lost his father 7 yrs ago, and he lost his mom this summer. Him and his siblings are all orphaned. Him and his 3 siblings just moved into that house where he was killed. We wonder if he was mistaken for someone who previously lived there.Thank you all for your simpathy, kind words, and condolances. May God protect us all from evil of today’s World… 😢💔🙏🏻

  • Lauren December 5, 2024 (8:24 am)

This poor child 💔 My heart goes out tohis family.

  • Pauline December 5, 2024 (8:38 am)

It’s been so long since a shooting in high point. Feeling re-traumatic experiences as I’ve been here since 1991. I’m 38 years old. I lost a few good peers while I was a middle schooler. They did community work like myself back then. Sending prayers and thoughts to the victims family.

    • Blbl December 5, 2024 (9:54 am)

“It’s been so long“? A man was a shot in the back in High Point six weeks ago. And that was less than a month after a man was shot and killed outside Seattle Soul Kitchen. And there was one in Highland Park on July 27th, and another just a month before that at Stewart Manor on June 26th. I’m certainly against fear-mongering, but a simple search on this WSB reveals many shootings in West Seattle this year, and several in High Point.

    • Jessica December 5, 2024 (10:04 am)

Really, how long has it been? It seems like I’m hearing gunshots and reading about casings pretty frequently. I won’t let my kid walk there after dark. It seems far too frequent.

      • Pauline December 5, 2024 (1:32 pm)

I feel safe in the high point community. I freely walk as I please without fear here and on the delridge strip.

        • Neighbor December 6, 2024 (4:19 am)

Good for you. We left High Point earlier this year because it was too dangerous, and I was fearful of a random drive-by shooting while walking our dog. The rent compared to safety here is outrageously high.I hope the culprit is found and condolences to the family.

    • Tired of the BS December 5, 2024 (10:05 am)

Pauline, you may need to read more and/or get your hearing checked. There has been at least 3 shootings in as many months and many more reports of shots fired in High Point.

      • Pauline December 5, 2024 (1:36 pm)

BS? That’s a few. Being pretty dramatic as plenty of places have gun violence too lol

        • Blbl December 5, 2024 (4:13 pm)

The number of shootings in this neighborhood is “pretty dramatic“. It is not reasonable or normal.

      • Pauline December 5, 2024 (1:54 pm)

Instead of focusing on the area itself as “bad” neighborhood. Focus on gun control efforts in general!

    • HighpointResident December 5, 2024 (4:18 pm)

High Point has had shootings regularly since say 2021/2022. There have been shootings between cars, there have have multiple shootings near Bataan like this one, and there was what seemed like target practice at Walt Hundley play field with a semi-auto rifle and pistol. I’m sorry you are just learning about this, but High Point has a serious gun violence problem and it is not just like everywhere else in Seattle and the greater King County area, it is decidedly worse.

      • k December 6, 2024 (7:24 pm)

Alki has shootings, stabbings, and fights regularly, and has for years.  Yet no one ever argues that neighborhood is unsafe…

  • TMJ December 5, 2024 (9:46 am)

My deepest condolences to his family and friends

  • concerned neighbor December 5, 2024 (9:57 am)

do we know any details about the victim?

    • WSB December 5, 2024 (10:14 am)

Aside from the fact he was 15 years old? No.

      • Student December 5, 2024 (2:29 pm)

Chief Sealth International highschool student, 10th grade, his name was sudaysi Ida.

        • WSB December 5, 2024 (3:30 pm)

That name was released by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office this afternoon.

  • Anonymous High Point resident December 5, 2024 (10:04 am)

I live nearby. There was a single gunshot at 10:14:54. Police arrived 10:19PM and fire truck / ambulance arrived 10:33PM. Most of emergency response had left by 11:10PM. This is at least the 4th gunshot incident in the High Point neighborhood since May of this year with all of these incidents within 0.25mi of my home. This incident seems very similar to the gunshot victim/incident that occurred near Bataan park in late October. There seems to be no end in sight for this violence.

  • Alki President December 5, 2024 (11:45 am)

I could hear things outside.  My prayers with the responder.

  • mrsshaw December 5, 2024 (12:10 pm)

I am so very sorry for his family and their devastating loss. May he rest in Peace.

  • Admiral-2009 December 5, 2024 (12:48 pm)

Life behind bars for anyone convicted of intentionally killing someone with a gun needs to be the punishment!

  • deejay December 5, 2024 (7:11 pm)

this is the second shooting within one block of each other.  the prior was October 23, 2024.  There is a likely connection to this one.

  • CSIHS Student December 5, 2024 (8:54 pm)

I go to CSIHS, I knew the Victim Sudaysi Ida, although I only had a class with him it’s almost impossible to comprehend someone you once studied with, someone who once was alive who had thoughts, friends, family, and meaningful memories is gone forever. I’ll admit I didn’t know what he was like, or for a matter of fact I didn’t know anything about him, but now having to go to that class every day for another 6 months is going to be the most awkward thing. Having to go to that class and sit in front of a seat and know your never going to see that person again will be one of the most traumatic and heart wrenching experiences for the students but also the teachers. I don’t want this paragraph to sound like I’m being selfish and only talking about how I’m going to feel now that he’s gone, I just want people to realize what everyone is going to feel now is almost like a hole in their stomach or even heart something that will take a long time to get rid of. I just want to say whatever happened or whatever he might have gotten into should not have ended in his death. Someone is to blame and this is not, nor will it ever be ok.

    • Mike December 5, 2024 (11:00 pm)

I’m so sorry you and your classmates are having to go through this terrible situation. Your words were very well chosen and I appreciate you sharing them in such a genuine manner. We adults in this reading audience could learn a lot from the manner by which you have expressed yourself. I wish you and all the CSIHS students and staff the best.

    • Sunrise Heights December 5, 2024 (11:17 pm)

@CSIHS Student. Thank you for sharing this. You are the wisest commenter on this comment board, and I so wish you and others did not have to go through this or explain it to adults. My daughter is also a student at Sealth and also had a class with Sudaysi. The feelings you describe are so real and you put them into words beautifully. Please take care of yourself and your friends. You all deserve better, as did Sudaysi.

    • Denny Staff Member December 6, 2024 (7:00 am)

Dear CSIHS Student,Thank you for your bravery in sharing your thoughts and feelings. This is absolutely traumatic and every feeling you have is VALID, not selfish. There is extra support on-site at Sealth and Denny today. Please reach out. You are not alone in your feelings! Sending so much love and strength to all students and staff at CSIHS, to the community, and especially to the family.Love,A Denny staff member
