About the smoke column behind Home Depot

Thanks to the texter who sent that photo. The smoke was from a fire, quickly extinguished by SFD Engine 11 minutes ago, in the greenbelt behind Home Depot. Firefighters described what was on fire as a “makeshift structure” and the call is logged as “encampment fire.” No word of any injuries. Most of the greenbelt along Sylvan Way northwest of the store is city-owned land.

Great. Since it’s city owned land I assume they could trespass the person or persons making makeshift structures?

The group that lives in the woods behind Home Depot have tapped into the fire hydrant for their personal use.  It’s the hydrant near the NW entrance.   I’ve seen them using it and carrying water into the woods.   You’d think the illegal tap would be a concern to the City.

      Did you report this?

I’m sure the city would have something to say if I tapped the hydrant in front of my house.  I doubt it would be polite.  Come on city, equal treatment for all.  Luckily the fire wasn’t in the middle of the summer with tinder dry woods.

Private use of a fire hydrant is illegal due to the potential for cross contamination and damage rendering it unusable for its intended purposes.

Does anyone know why the ARCO by this Home Depot only seems to sell regular grade gas now? It seems like it’s been at least a few months now where that’s been the case. They’ve taped off the non-regular pumps and have a sign on the door too mentioning “regular only.” I didn’t bother going in the last time to check why, thinking they’d eventually get premium back but they haven’t. Thanks!

They have a tank project coming up, according to land-use files, so perhaps they’re just selling what they have left. We’ll check tomorrow if we get a chance.

I hope the people in the encampment are okay… my heart breaks for them. Hope they can find some help and a new location safely.
