UPDATE: Police search after bank robbery north of The Junction

9:44 AM: Police are searching north of The Junction after a bank robbery reported at the Washington Federal branch in the 4100 block of California SW. No other details yet.

9:55 AM: Only description we’ve heard so far is partial: “”black jacket, olive green wading boots, cargo pants.”

A K-9 team is helping search.

10:16 AM: We have asked police at the scene if any more descriptive information is available. So far: 6′, male, hat obscuring his face. He was reported to have shown a gun. This is the third bank robbery in West Seattle in less than two months, after more than a year without one – the Bank of America in Admiral was held up last Friday, and the Umpqua Bank in Admiral was robbed in early August.

11:34 AM: Thanks to those who have pointed out that two nearby schools, Tilden School (WSB sponsor) and Holy Rosary School, have been in what amounts to shelter-in-place because of this.

Katie and I are long time customers of the branch. Dotty, Linda and their team do a marvelous job dealing with our fairly wide range of banking needs.

This is the second recent robbery they’ve had to deal with. I can only imagine what that must be like. Our best wishes are with them along as well as with our police as they hopefully apprehend the perpetrator.

Tracy – you may want to add a comment regarding the area’s surrounding schools as there are a couple. Tilden, for example, has enforced their shelter in place until further notice.

Hi, thanks, we haven’t been able to check with them because we are also dealing with a technical crisis that (at least until a few minutes ago, although I’m not ready to declare it fixed yet) had been affecting the site. But you mentioned this and someone on FB mentioned HRS, so we might as well make a note … thanks

Holy Rosary is on contained lockdown. Meaning no one gets in or out.

What about the World Kids Preschool two blocks away? We can’t get ahold of anyone over there.

Follow-up to Tilden shelter in place status . Per their administration:
“We have just received an all-clear notice from the Seattle Police Department, so we are no longer in shelter-in-place at Tilden.

just noticed this post was tagged not only for crime but also for “coyotes” and the garage sale.

Thanks, Carol, I fixed that hours ago but we are having a new and unpleasant technical problem today that is messing with updating among other things, so apparently it unfixed itself. Have tried again, hope it takes this time …

So glad to hear there was a technical issues (not so much on your end). I read the report this am after Lafayette drop off …. Was very concerning, then anytime I went to check for an update, the article disappeared. Started to question myself ….. Possibly a dream? Felt like I was losing my mind. Sorry you had tech issues, so glad for my mindsake that they seem to be fixed!!!!

How scary. This is the 3rd bank robbery in West Seattle in about a month? And I don’t believe any of the perpetrators have been apprehended.

To quote my young nephew “did they catch the bad guy”?

No – I asked Lt. Smith about it at the Highland Park Action Committee meeting tonight to be extra sure we hadn’t missed it. – TR

why don’t they do money packs with a GPS in them? give them all the money they want. the cops would not even have to come to the bank. just go look for the GPS and odds are you got your criminal.

Sorry, comment time is over.
