West Seattle food notes: Wanna, Marination, OutWest, Feedback, Elliott Bay, Matador…

Updates from the West Seattle food and drink world:

WANNA TERIYAKI/BURGER OPENS TOMORROW: That’s what they told us late today when we stopped by the new place that, as first mentioned here last Friday, is taking over the former Athena’s/former Zippy’s spot at 1513 SW Holden: They’re planning to open at 10 am Friday. And, as Erik tipped us via the WSB Facebook page last night, they fixed the sign.

MARINATION MA KAI: New general manager Shawn Findley says Marination ma kai (WSB sponsor) at Seacrest is changing back to fall/winter hours as of next Monday (September 23rd):

Mondays: Closed
Tuesdays: 9 am-8 pm
Wednesdays: 9 am-8 pm
Thursdays: 9 am-8 pm
Fridays: 9 am-9 pm
Saturdays: 9 am-9 pm
Sundays: 9 am-8 pm

SUNDAY BRUNCH AND FOOTBALL AT OUTWEST: From OutWest Bar:

In our 3rd year, we’re opening up for Sunday Brunch! We will be showing every Sunday Seahawks game and opening by 9:30 for 10 am game days! All other Sundays we’ll open at noon and serve Brunch until 3! We’ve got Waffles & Sausage on the menu and a plethora of Bloody Marys to choose from, all starting at $6. Go Hawks!!

SUNDAY BREAKFAST AND FOOTBALL AT FEEDBACK: You can watch the games at Feedback Lounge (WSB sponsor) too, according to manager Gia Griffitts:

At Feedback Lounge We will be showing all of the Seahawks games up on our big screen and opening early (9 am) for the Sunday 10 am games. Chef Wade will also be serving up a breakfast special on those early game days!

ELLIOTT BAY OKTOBERFEST: Elliott Bay Brewery Pub in The Junction isn’t waiting until October to celebrate Oktoberfest. It’s this Saturday (September 21st), and the pub/restaurant will be serving German fare along with the regular menu all day, as well as featuring “traditional German music by the Bonnie Birch Band” 6-9 pm.

MATADOR MENU: Also in The Junction, Matador West Seattle manager Andrew Ruggles has sent word of “a redesigned menu, with several recipe changes and the addition of a few new items.” New items they’ve announced include Nachos Mariscos – “a Northwest spin on our traditional Nachos, with dungeness crab and shrimp” – and Olympic Mountain Fried Ice Cream.

To Marination. What’s the point of breakfast items in the menu when you miss the morning commute crowd?

Just FYI, actual Oktoberfest always begins in September and never in October. Oktoberfest officially begins 9/21 this year.

Thank you, Kim. Lo these many years, first time I’ve heard that.

That will save me from making that same uninformed reference next year (and later this month)! – TR

Hooray! They fixed the typo on the sign! We don’t have to eat “charbrolied” burgers!

I just don’t understand why Marination doesn’t open early enough to catch the bulk of the Water Taxi crowd–puzzling to me!

Sorry if I missed it being reported on the WSB, but apparently Pailin Thai has new ownership? I have heard that the quality has gone down although I have not checked it out myself. Was surprised, had been in there fairly recently and had no inkling that it was changing ownership.

    • WSB September 20, 2013 (9:28 am)

Bestbets, we have seldom had stories about ownership changes unless we hear from new owners who want to get the word out they’re making changes or improvements or something. Didn’t hear about this one, though I do recall a liquor-license-change application, which is sometimes a hint of new owners. OTOH, I don’t think we have EVER heard anything from anyone at Pailin (the notes above, for example, except for Wanna, are all the result of info sent to us by the respective businesses – editor@westseattleblog.com ) – TR

What’s with the new coffee house sandwich place on Oregon in Junction ? That’s a lot of coffee joints in the same two or three blocks with Hotwire, red cup, firefly…

    • WSB September 20, 2013 (12:04 pm)

I don’t know of a coffee-house sandwich place on Oregon, but there’s the Italian sandwich etc. place that Pizzeria 22’s Cary Kemp is opening – do you mean them?

  • sam-c September 20, 2013 (1:24 pm)

are you talking about fiddlehead? they’ve been there a while (longer than firefly I think). their brunch is great!!

  • Fregirl September 20, 2013 (6:44 pm)

It’s Quadrato apparently. Pizza, sandwiches and espresso drinks too.

Checked out Wanna Teriyaki & Burger last night. It was pretty tasty. We had Chicken Katsu and Chicken Breast teriyaki. They were nice folks. Won’t have a working credit card machine until Monday. Their take out number is 206-402-5218

Sorry, comment time is over.
