West Seattle Crime Watch: Stolen car; burglars take jewelry

Two West Seattle Crime Watch reports in this afternoon – another stolen car, and a burglary with loot including jewelry you’re asked to watch for. Both reports ahead:

From Robin:

Now that it’s happened to me I notice there are lots of people reporting stolen cars on the blog; I just got back from 10 days away and realized my car was missing from the street in front of the building (stolen sometime between 9/13 and 9/23). It was parked on the 45th block of SW Alaska Street (near Farmer’s Market/Junction). Apparently one of my neighbor’s in the building had his older Honda stolen recently, as well. Mine, 1994 Honda Civic DX, Black. My neighbor’s car was recovered, was stripped but still drive-able. We’ll see what happens with mine. 812 TJS

And from Gatewood, the WSB’er known as “Burglar Bustin’ Dad,” for tracking down the burglar who hit his house a while back – discovering him cashing in stolen coins at a grocery store – reports a neighbor’s just been hit (near 35th/Morgan):

My neighbor of 30 years (she has lived here 40 years) was robbed last night about 9 PM.

The thieves grabbed a stored ladder and broke a second story door glass. Jewelry and a computer were taken. I regret that I was not able to help her catch these thieves as she helped me catch the thief who broke in to my house two years ago.

He says a few small pieces of jewelry were found nearby this morning, but two that are missing “stand out”: A large (75 carat) lemon quartz pendant; a silver bracelet with many hand set turquoise stones. If you see them on sale somewhere or find them, please contact police.

Yesterday (9/23) at approx. 4:45pm at the corner of 107th and Ambaum, an older black Honda ran the red light and turned right, in front of us. The woman was driving fast and recklessly. She immediately swerved around the car in front of her and turned left onto a residential street heading south. We noticed that the drivers side door had some dents in it and the window was all the way down. We commented that she was driving like she stole the car! She had dark hair and was wearing glasses. Not sure if this info might help, but having had a car stolen ourselves, sometimes anything might help.

About 10 years ago my grandparents who lived in Burien had the same experience. Someone took a ladder from the neighbors house propped it up and went in thru a second story window, WHILE THEY WERE HOME watching my little cousins in the middle of the day!! I want to remind everyone to be cautious of where their ladders are being stored as it becomes an easy target, especially during the summer.

They stole our ladders! Now they’re padlocked.

Good idea to padlock ladders kept outdoors. Good luck in recovering the car and stolen items.

Several months ago, our car was prowled while parked in our driveway. The only thing taken was a roll of coins in the glove box. However, worse than that, they stole two expensive low voltage yard lights. I think this happened when the street light was out in front of our house. (Guess our cars were too old to steal.)

Question: when the house was burgled, was anyone home?

Robin, your car is a half a block north of Holy Rosary on 42nd…..the cops were called on it a few days ago. It must have not been reported stolen yet. It looks in good shape minus a tire.

Thanks, Weasea – I will send Robin a note pointing out this comment – TR

My neighbor was not home but may have alarmed the thief when she returned.
Here is the news story from 2009 http://www.king5.com/news/local/61164262.html
My burglar pled guilty and served eight months of a one year sentence. He pled guilty to his third burglary in 2010. His last known address was a mile away and he does not appear to be in custody now.
Do you feel safe? I do not!

That was my car!! I am so pleased that posting this on the blog actually resulted in me getting it back. Thanks to all for the information and the forum! I was on the phone with the 911 operator when the woman who reported the abandoned car to police came out of her house so couldn’t really talk with her. If you are reading this, thanks so much. I didn’t report it missing until yesterday, after I came back from my trip. It will be there for at least another hour because they told me not to drive it until it had been cleared as stolen from the system. I’ll have to have it towed. Crazy, they stole a tire and put the spare tire on and left the jack in place. There was no damage to the inside. Found 4 blocks from my place…

Backdoor daylight burglary through doggie door on a Monday midday. The neighbor later report seeing a young man walk down the driveway carrying a garbage bag and walk around the corner!

Check your back doors and don’t “Assume” that just because its daylight, your neighbors are home or your on an arterial that your home is safe!!!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
