Admiral Safeway demolition continuing today

Thanks to Jessica (whose site Memoirs of a Weird Girl is one of the 100+ sites on the WSB Blogs page) for sharing that photo of demolition at the Admiral Safeway redevelopment site today – you can see the crews are proceeding toward the facade. As noted here yesterday, Safeway also now has a webcam you can check; we’ll add images later in the day as this proceeds. The new store – almost twice as big as the old one – is expected to be open by midsummer next year.

Glad to see that coming down , that Safeway was getting too small for that location.

Is it a reflection or does it appear that the lights are still on? (10:00 AM)

It’s a reflection, Robert. Stood there with my kids and watched them tear that giant hole in the side, yesterday afternoon. We had a few others with us (including people snapping pictures) and it was quite a sight to see. We only left because the wind had shifted and we were getting hit with quite a bit of construction dust. Looking forward to seeing the finished site once we’re back in the country next Summer!

actually not so much a reflection, then just no roof on the inside, so its back lit with daylight.

I was very surprised to be the only person out there watching demolition at 6ish last night; I took bunch of photos from center of the site through a hole in the fence, and sent to Tracy; thought she might post at least one of the pics I took; they’re amateur but about as good as what I’ve seen on here so far, and shows the whole site with what had been torn out; you can even still see most of the signs inside the store in a couple of my pics; I know they are super busy; I would post one of my photos on here, but don’t know how

you couldn’t tell anything was happening by driving up California; the walls still all intact; they gutted inside from 42nd, and was amazing to see most of inside gone in 1 day

the teardown of the old house was heartbreaking, but I am thrilled to see the ugly old Safeway come down

btw, some of us are still on very slow Internet connections, so I can’t even open webcam; thus, I REALLY appreciate still shots

    Thanks for the credit, WSB!

It was kinda loud this morning. Ah, what we have to look forward too.

Also, weird to see the all the signs for the different departments when looking in through a giant hole this morning.

it’s been a week of noise…getting used to it now. The more noise, the quicker the new store is open, I say. I’m still going through withdrawals – lol…hey, it’s across the street… I call Safeway my 2nd refrigerator ;-)

It’s so weird to see the frame of the old store! Those were the good old days!!!! We had some fun times in there!

Sorry, comment time is over.
