The three R’s – plus one more: Roxhill Elementary’s R needs U

Roxhill Elementary School‘s distinctive “R” needs some help. And Westwood Neighborhood Council leader Donn DeVore (who shared the photo above) is offering the perfect chance for you to pitch in and make sure that a building working on teaching kids the “three R’s” – and then some – can be proud of its own “R” once more:

Calling for volunteers on September 11th/12th from 10 am to 2 pm. Need a minimum of 8-10 people (4-5 each day) to help sand, prime and re-paint the Roxhill Elementary School ‘R’ on SW Roxbury Street. The school doesn’t have the budget for this.

If people are interested in volunteering, please have them contact me at donndevore@hotmail.com.

The West Seattle Tool Library will happily provide any sanders, scrapers, ladders, and painting tools that the volunteers might need.

The West Seattle Tool Library would happily supply any sanders, scrapers, ladders, or other painting tools that this project could use.

We’ve put the dates on our calendar.

Thanks for stepping up to help the school out!

Thanks, I’ll take you up on that offer.

I believe I was in the last team to paint the R in 2003 when I was a school social worker in Roxhill… It would be SO NICE to have the tool library’s help!! There can really only be 2 ladders max up near it at once, but the sanding is a tiring project that can be shift-shared. YAAAY COMMUNITY!! =)

Maybe we can get some volunteers to paint the playground as well!

Why can’t our public school system pay for this?

  • miws August 27, 2010 (9:25 pm)

Because they don’t have the funds, Wes.

That’s sad the public school system can’t repair a giant “R”.
Where are my taxes going? Poor kids.

Someone needs to complain to the School Board and Don Kennedy, COO, about this and get them to use BEX funds for this. It would be a small price to pay compared to the risk of volunteers on the ladder.

Sorry, comment time is over.
