West Seattle homeowner gets Rebuilding Together boost

Got a note this morning from someone wondering what was happening with all the activity around that Admiral District home. Answer: Green-shirted volunteers from Rebuilding Together Seattle, working as part of the group’s 20th annual Spring Rebuilding Day – one of more than 25 projects around the city, with 1,000+ volunteers (staffers from Greenpoint Technologies in Kirkland supported the West Seattle work). RTS is a group that donates volunteer help for repair/cleanup-type projects so that people dealing with challenges such as disabilities or low income can stay in their homes. You can find out more, including how to volunteer for future events, by going here.

It’s really nice to see communites helping people in need, rather than relying on TV cameras and celebrites.

Thanks for covering this. It was inspiring to see so many people helping someone for whom it has become a struggle to keep up with house maintenance. Thank you to all of the volunteers and the sponsor.

I would like to know some background info on the owner. Admiral District is a pretty pricey area to live in.

Donn, really, does it take that much effort to think of a circumstance where someone in North Admiral might need assistance?

Thanks volunteers, I saw you out working yesterday, a swarm of lime green shirts, and I was inspired to learn more about your organization. I hope to volunteer with you some day. Keep up the good work.

Rebuilding Together Seattle does have an application/screening process for the home owners. If you head over to their website, you can see the homeowner application.

Kim, I SOO recommend volunteering with them! I worked yesterday at a house by greenlake, and while it was a long day, it was so rewarding. We painted the house and did some landscaping, and the changes were just night and day. We had a couple people from the neighborhood come by, and they were grateful for the whole neighborhood and the house that the work got done.
