Motorcycle crash at 35th/Graham

Just saw a major medic call at 35th/Graham on the 911 log and got a simultaneous reader report — “terrible accident, motorcycle hit by a car and destroyed.” Heading over to check it out. 4:17 PM UPDATE: Got there within minutes of the original post; the motorcycle was upright but clearly damaged (will add a photo in a minute); no car in sight, except for two police cars bookending the motorcycle, before a tow truck arrived moments later. The road was open. Our original tipster said the motorcycle rider appeared “hurt” but “was moving around.” 4:21 PM UPDATE: Photo added:

That is a moped, the defining characteristic being you can swing your legs through the middle of a moped. Hope the guy is ok.

Umm, I think it is a scooter. A larger scooter. A “moped” is something you peddle to get started.
I hope this person is ok. I have been hit by a drunk elderly man on my motorcycle and it is no fun. Luckily I was wearing a full face helmet, leather jacket and good riding boots. The 1975 Yamaha RD 350 didnt fare so well.

It’s a motorcycle…a scooter is a ‘style’ of motorcycle. Motorcycle is 2 wheel motor (non-human) powered transport. Scooter (swing through leg area) is a type of motorcycle. :)

Looks like a Honda Silverwing, which has a 600cc engine. In the 1980s this would have been a midsized engine for a motorcycle. Now a days, anything less than 1000cc is a scooter class. Crazy.

Anyway, I hope however that was is OK. Scooter/motorcycle/whatever you call it, riding on such vehicles makes you almost invisible to most drivers. Whatever you ride, be CAREFUL and stay safe…there are a lot of stupid drivers out there.

It is indeed a Honda Sliver Wing scooter. It’s a 582cc liquid-cooled four-stroke parallel-twin scooter. Honda lists it as a scooter on their web site. Interestingly I had 2 people in my MSF (motorcycle license course) with these things, and at a lecture at South Sound BMW I heard about a couple that rode one of these things to Alaska! Wow.

Looks like the poor rider was smacked on the right side, many bike vs car accidents are in bike turning left meets car situations, so I wonder if that’s the deal. Bikes are hard to see, so I’m not a fan of gray or black bikes, hopefully he/she had on some bright and durable gear as well.

Bottom line, sucks for everyone involved. I really hope nothing too bad came of it.

Ah– I must have picked up ‘moped’ at some point instead of ‘scooter.’ Thanks. That thing is packing 582cc?! With those tiny brakes??

Sorry, comment time is over.
