Delridge crash: Precarious position

Thanks to several people who e-mailed WSB to let us know about a car hitting a pole on Delridge — right by the famous flag — here’s the first photo, from Pete:

Earlier “eyewitness account” removed – Steph notes, different accident. Sorry.

That’s some fine driving there, Lou.

    Obviously it’s the pole’s fault.

must have been distracted by the thought of fine dining at the Delridge mini mart….

So the eyewitness statement said the driver hit a pedestrian. Since when are we getting telephone poles confused with people?

Crimeney.. Just when we think we’re going to get somewhere with the pedestrian safety issue, idiot pedestrians blow it. Over this past month I have seen so many peds nearly injured… Whether unable to wait for a “WALK” sign, unable to go to a corner crossing, or just LAZY… Come on peds, don’t do stupid stuff.

so the driver hit the pedestrian, then the pole?
    I’m confused.

I was out and about at 6pm last night, and I encountered no less than 3 people walking..one with a black ! dog, one crossing in the middle of a block, one dashing out between parked cars. Not one had on any light clothing, and were almost impossible to see. The woman walking her dog was also talking on her cell phone, and while she did cross at a corner, she never stopped to look first, just kept on walking…I was slowing down at the intersection, so did see her…but…geez…wear something light at night, and early morning, so we can see you.

Doesn’t seem like the eyewitness account is for the same accident as this photo. The car was near the intersection of Delridge & Andover, probably a couple of miles north of Holden.

I’m confused. Regarding the picture how on earth did the car (mercedes?) take out the entire pole while suffering minimal damage to itself? Usually the car is wrapped around the pole. I’ve heard they are built like a tank but I didn’t think they really were.

Just to clarify, the pedestrian being hit that I saw had nothing to do with the telephone pole accident. The accident I witnessed was on Holden near Delridge. So two separate accidents folks. :)

Sorry again for the confusion … we saw accident and Delridge and hit “post” WAY too fast. Removed from the main post now.

ok then, so, like Robert said earlier, “Obviously it’s the pole’s fault.”

Sorry, comment time is over.
