Traffic alert

Not sure exactly what’s up — we’ll check while en route to the Pirates in a bit — but WS Blogger Spouse tells me that Alaska is all torn up on the block between Easy Street and Key Bank. Last-minute work in time for next weekend’s Summer Fest/Street Festival/etc.?

Speaking of which, the whole music schedule is up online for the festival … and as a tipster told us a few weeks back, it’s quite a lineup, sponsored by West 5, Easy Street, and KEXP.

Wow, in the olden days, the music lineup was pretty much something that couldn’t have been sponsored by anything more eclectic than (bless their hearts) the Senior Center and Poggie’s Tavern. How far WS has come!

It looks like the repair on Alaska street is all done (5:30 p.m. Sat & DOT is watching the cement dry). Just in time for Summer Fest!

In addition to the fantastic musical line up, we got some WS heavies to take on emcee duties on the two music stages – confirmed already are New York Vinnie (Kiro Sports), Scott VanDerpool (KZOK), Lou Magor (Kenyon Hall) … there are some other good surprizes on the emcee front, but they are not locked in just yet, keep your ears to the ground.

And don’t forget to support your local WS Junction merchants who sponsor the event – and yes, West 5 will have a few tables on the sidewalk for the duration of Summer Fest! (sorry for the plug)

I’m really looking forward to Summer Fest. Any idea what kind of music they play at the Sat street dance?

Here is info from the Summer Fest site on Sat Night Street Dance:
    Saturday Night Soul Jam
Join us for a street dance like West Seattle has never seen. DJ Cherry Canoe will be spinning her certifiable brand of old soul cuts to get your booty shakin. Next, DJ Greg Vandy will school us all on vintage, classic, and obscure soul. If you’ve ever listened to his Wednesday night KEXP show The Roadhouse, you know you are in for an American music history lesson like no other. Choklate will close out this great show with her brand of soul, hip hop, and r&b originals. Step!
And don’t forget the North Beer Garden (21+) will be open late thanks to our friends, the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
    Presented by LeafGuard Northwest.
