UPDATE: Vehicle fire in South Admiral

6:08 PM: Thanks to Christopher Boffoli for the photo and info from a fire that drew a mid-size SFD response in the 3200 block of 44th SW. It’s out now but Christopher says a vehicle caught fire in a driveway and that it spread to trees over the driveway. (Added: Here’s video of the flames in the trees.) We’re headed that way to find out more.

6:30 PM: All SFD units had departed by the time we arrived, so we’re following up via email.

8 PM: SFD spokesperson David Cuerpo replied, “Crews extinguished a car fire near a detached garage. No injuries were reported, and the incident is under investigation.”

Not to turn attention from the fire and damage, but is it normal for household water to turn slightly brown after a fire nearby?I live down the street, and I’m assuming it’s due to the fire (and the water that was used or something), but my household water appears to be tinged brown right now. I’m not overly concerned, but mostly curious.

Yes, absolutely. Hydrant activation – whether for a fire response or for testing – is a major cause of “brown water.”

I am interested in what kind of vehicle; electric, hybrid or ICE.

Looks like a VW Eurovan, so ICE unless a conversion was done with it.

ICE. I believe it was a VW van.  Despite some media distortion about burning Teslas, ICE vehicles are apparently more likely to be involved in fires than EVs.

I’d also like to learn if this was an electric vehicle.  I fear parking an EV inside my garage under my entire home due n to these seemingly spontaneous EV battery fires.  I admit, I have no idea as to the odds.  I have only known three friends who had total vehicle loss that thankfully were not parked in a residence/apartrment.  Thanks for any help.

Do we not realize that ICE are little bomb factories? Engines work by causing explosions and igniting gasoline. Fear mongering around EVs is propaganda.

It’s a controlled combustion within a engine cylinder, hardly a uncontrolled explosion… Do your research before spouting disinformation about INTERNAL combustion engines…

the wind brought Ash from that fire all the way up to our house near 45th and Hanford. There is white ash on the deck and cars and other surfaces.

I’m not surprised. The flames were about 40 feet high at one point. And there was quite a plume of smoke and ash:  https://vimeo.com/907709741Kudos to the SFD Engine 29 crew for getting the fire in the car and trees put out before it spread to the houses nearby.

Sorry, comment time is over.
