HomerParticipantAnyone have good experience with a side sewer replacement company that doesn’t destroy your yard when replacing the pipe? I have so many great trees and plantings that I don’t want ruined.
Heard there’s a way to “pull” a new pipe through the old one with little disruption. Anyone have experience with low property damage side sewer repair companies?

DianaParticipantI highly recommend O’Neill Plumbing. 206-932-5283.
They replaced mine, did an excellent job, protected major plantings, plus they are excellent professionals to work with. And, I should add, my project was quite complex and they were creative in their approach.

HomerParticipantThanks Diana, did they have to dig up the entire old pipe or just a few “holes” to then pull a new pipe through?

DianaParticipantHomer, I honestly don’t remember. My side sewer ran under a concrete driveway so this included a lot of demolition. I fled the premises! If you call Randy at O’Neill he could give you information. Tell him Diana in North Admiral recommended them.

dhgParticipantGive a call to Mr. Rooter Plumbing. 206-734-3315
They have a technique that uses sleeves to fix the side sewer without digging it up.

swParticipantI second O’Neill Plumbing. I had this same work done earlier this year and they did a great job. Running a liner through your existing pipe is very common and least disruptive to your yard. It does require having an “access point” on both ends of the pipe which is to be lined. I would imagine this would be next to your house where the sewer exits, and then a second hole near where it joins into the 6 inch city sub-main. These holes need to be 8-10 feet deep depending on your layout, and unfortunately there is no way to avoid digging them.
I recommend having a cleanout port installed on each end of your new pipe (one next to your house and one next to the tie-in at the street). Although unlikely you will have issues with your newly lined pipe, this is very inexpensive to add and will prove a big benefit one day down the road if you do have any issues.
Every plumbing company you contact may have slightly different approaches, but the actual work and process will be the same. The difference will be price, and the level of comfort you have with each company. I have used O’Neill in the past and can vouch for their excellent service and reasonable pricing – contact Cevin Farnsworth. I have also heard good things about Affordable Plumbing – see other plumbing threads in the WSB forums.
DO NOT contact any of the large companies or “The one to call” as they follow shady business practices and will charge more for the same work. Get at least three bids, as you’ll probably be paying $10k-$12k or more. Don’t hire anyone unless you feel comfortable with their bid and people. Good luck.

HomerParticipantWow, thanks sw. I am not having a problem as of now but would like to research and investigate as much as possible ahead of time because if it does go bad, not too much time to shop around since I won’t have a sewer!
I don’t mind two holes, but my side sewer goes from the back of my house to the front so a few right angle turns. Just hoping they don’t need to dig a big hole at each turn but instead, like you said, one at the start and one at the end.

MrRooterMemberHomer, Mr.Rooter Plumbing has several techniques we can use that allow us to keep your yard looking original. We can do both Pipe Bursting which involves pulling a pipe through the original pipe path and a sewer liner which is a “pipe within a pipe” that often times only requires 1 hole in a convenient spot. Your options will be based on what your needs are but I can offer a on site visit at no charge. Mr. Rooter service professionals can answer all your questions including pricing at that time. Mr. Rooter Plumbing can be reached at 800-845-3107 7 days a week.
