trickycooljParticipantIs there anywhere in the West Seattle area that carries preemie clothes? My cousin and his wife just had their little one 8 weeks early, she’s just shy of 4lbs and I know she’ll need some extra tiny things when she comes home from the NICU in 3-6 weeks. I’ve found some online and a coworker recommended Burlington and Carter’s, but I was hoping I wouldn’t need to go to Southcenter or pay fast shipping from the web. Anywhere around West Seattle? Or near-ish but with good selection?
If anyone has any suggestions of other good gifts for a preemie I’m open to suggestions! These are first time parents and a first preemie in our extended family so I’m sure there’s plenty of things we might not even think would be useful! I typically get new parents size-up clothes since they grow so quick, but in this case I’m stumped…

jissyParticipantTricky…. Unless you want to check the consignment stores, I too would recommend Carter’s @ Southcenter… I was just there & they do indeed have preemie sizes as does Babies R Us just down the parkway. The only other “gift” I would recommend is stocking her freezer with meals!!!!

BonnieParticipantTricky, my first child was a preemie born over 10 weeks early. He wasn’t in many preemie clothes because while he was in the hospital 1) they had lots of donated clothes for all the babies and 2) by the time he came home he was 6 lbs and on his way to wearing newborn clothes. So I don’t think she will need a lot of preemie clothes. It’s been 12 years so I don’t remember where I got mine but I am thinking Carter’s and Babies R Us (are they still around??)
Since this is baby #1 they probably won’t need a ton of help but I would just offer support and maybe offer to go rock the baby in the hospital. My son (born at 30 weeks) was in the hospital for 10 weeks but girls seem to spend less time in the hospital and she will most likely be home earlier. When they are home I would bring them meals, etc. We had to stay in the first year because the doctors were very worried about our baby contacting RSV and he had to get some very expensive shots called Synagis. (sp??) Anyways, it has been 12 years so things may have changed.
I’d just offer support and meals and don’t be too worried if they are very freaked out by germs because a long stay in the hospital can do that to people.
Good luck!

DMHParticipantI know that Target has a few preemie things. You can normally find them in the clothes section that is near all the other baby stuff (not in the big area with clothes, there is a smaller one that has layette sets and that sort of thing). The selection is not huge but you should be able to pick out a few things. A friend of mine had a baby in May that was about 6lbs and she fit in preemie clothes for a good month and a half-two months. And she wasnt even a preemie just a super petite baby!
Also I second stocking the family with freezer meals. Its so overwhelming taking care of a newborn and I cant even imagine the stress of having a little one in NICU.
Good luck to your cousin and his family!
