StringCheeseParticipantAre any restaurants, bars, etc. planning any inauguration viewing events? I would love to share this historic moment with others in the community without resorting to big events like Town Hall, etc. What about West Seattle? Any fun local gatherings?
January 13, 2009 at 5:48 am #654742
StringCheeseParticipantMaybe a sports bar (i.e. big TVs) willing to open for a special breakfast?

WSBKeymasterWe wrote recently about the West Seattle Democratic Women’s plans:

B-squaredParticipantI will be going to Town Hall where they will be having a viewing event (Since “the Stranger’s” event at the Triple Door is sold out). Too bad some place like Beveridge Place Pub couldn’t open early that day and serve champagne to the celebrants and have the festivities on their big screens.
January 13, 2009 at 6:59 pm #654745
SuitsarenotBoringMemberA friend of mine was talking to the owner of Beveridge about opening early for Inauguration Day. He was fairly interested, but I am not sure if he made a decision.
I know West 5 is serving Happy Hour starting at 11am :)

ToddinWestwoodMemberCome and help me celebrate at work.
January 13, 2009 at 8:02 pm #654748
JanSParticipantlol….. “it’s kinda back hoe over on this side of seattle. i’m just sayin… “
are you saying we’re back woods because some businesses aren’t having inauguration celebrations that morning? a clarification please? I’m just curious…
January 14, 2009 at 6:39 am #654749
WSBKeymasterOK, got another post-inauguration event. WSB sponsor Skylark Cafe and Club (they’re not in the sidebar but they are a banner sponsor for the Weekend Lineup we publish every Friday) has just decided to do this – hmm, shoe drive organizers, sounds like she’s collecting shoes, I just noticed this … or is it part of this one?
“SO LONG, COWBOY!
Tuesday, January 20th
Skylark Café & Club
Celebrate the beginning of a new era as our new president Barack Obama
is sworn in on Tuesday, January 20th. Here at Skylark we will be
honoring the occasion all day (and especially delighting in the
long-overdue exit of President Bush).
You will already have watched the main events unfold at the crack of
dawn Pacific Standard Time. As you get antsy to share the joy with
your neighbors, feel free to head down to Skylark for lunch featuring
brunchy specials starting at 11:30am. Local television news coverage
will be projected on our 7’x7′ screen (okay, painter’s tarp) until 3pm
for those of you that need to drink in every drop of the glorious day.
At 3pm we will shift gears for happy hour and begin to project clips
of all-American black and white Westerns, such as “The Lucky Texan”
featuring John Wayne, “King of the Cowboys” with Roy Rogers, and “To
The Last Man” with Shirley Temple. Happy hour specials from 3pm to 6pm
and again from 9pm to 1am include $1 off wells, drafts, bottled beers
and wine and delicious $4 sliders.
The party continues with Spin Your Wax open turntables at 6pm, when
Skylark owners Jessie and Charlie and West Seattle Blog’s intrepid
reporters Patrick and The Young Intern tackle the Technics. Feel free
to bring your own vinyl to express how you feel about the new regime!
Karaoke follows at 9:30pm with Burning Hearts’ Uncle Bling hosting
punk/metal/hardcore karaoke until close. Is there a farewell song to
George (“Highway to Hell” by AC/DC or “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath) or
a welcome song to Barack (“Sharp Dressed Man” by ZZ Top) you’d like to
sing? After a taste of our Pisco Punch–much like the Pisco sour W.
was seen drinking recently–you’ll let it all out.
To complete the catharsis, we’ll provide a life-sized cardboard Bush
cutout and Sharpie markers for your defacing pleasure. Skylark also
encourages you to please bring gently used shoes all day long…we’ll
donate them to charity for you. Though it’s tempting, refrain from
throwing the shoes. The metaphor’s there. You don’t need to work for
it.
Love, Skylark”

hammerheadParticipantI am sure shadowland will be showing it. They open at 11 am
January 15, 2009 at 4:16 pm #654751
StringCheeseParticipantUnfortunately for us poor blokes here on the West coast, the main swearing in will be around 9am…
Anyone close to any bar/restaurant owners?
January 15, 2009 at 5:12 pm #654752
AshleyMemberJust in case some of you don’t know, West 5 doesn’t have Tv’s but is serving happy hour at 11:00.
January 15, 2009 at 9:14 pm #654753
ZenguyParticipantI found this on CitySearch, none of them are WS though.
January 15, 2009 at 9:29 pm #654754
JoBParticipantI like the cardboard cutout of george at the skylark.. great idea!
January 15, 2009 at 9:35 pm #654755
charlabobParticipantOK, the charla half will be holding court at Skylark starting whenever she can stop cheering and jumping up and down after watching the inaug at a certin popular forum-ite’s home (yup, this is my rsvp).
Go somewhere — this is not something to celebrate/observe alone with your box of wine.
And, as someone who isn’t as nobly post-partisan as our New President (NP), let me take this opportunity to say, neener neener – ding dong the hack is gone — don’t let the door hit you –whatever!
:-)
January 15, 2009 at 9:40 pm #654756
JanSParticipanthehehe..Charla…I like the neener neener…
January 15, 2009 at 9:43 pm #654757
JenVMemberI will try to head to Skylark for lunch that day, since I am going to miss all the glorious festivities due to work.
January 15, 2009 at 9:47 pm #654758
ZenguyParticipantI just checked the listings for that day and cannot find it on after work, even on CNN. Gonna have to bribe a friend with a DVR I guess.
January 15, 2009 at 10:31 pm #654759
charlabobParticipantI’ll have most of it TIVO’d, probably on MSNBC — I’m sure broadcasters will be live streaming and podcasting, so no one should have to miss even a moment. If you miss it and can’t find any recordings, let me know and we’ll arrange to get it to you.
January 15, 2009 at 10:37 pm #654760
JoBParticipanti too will be in front of a certain WSB poster’s television.. enjoying myself immensely… so this is also my RSVP..
who i hope still has those floor cushions with seat backs
and skylark afterward sounds great…
don’t forget Full Tilt’s pot luck in the late afternoon/early evening…..
he has beer.
we’re going to have a good time…
we’re going to have a good time…
we’re going to have a good time…
hehehehehehehehehehehehehe
January 16, 2009 at 12:26 am #654761
StringCheeseParticipantUm… I posted to find out places I CAN go, not to have it rubbed in that everyone else seems to be invited to a private party… harsh.
Thank you Zenguy, I’ll check that out.
January 16, 2009 at 12:29 am #654762
StringCheeseParticipantI can’t believe more places are doing this! Everything interesting is SOLD OUT! Come on WS businesses! Open, open, open…
January 16, 2009 at 1:38 am #654763
FullTiltParticipantI thought of doing this, but then I would have to have a TV…so see ya for the after party that night.
January 16, 2009 at 1:56 am #654764
charlabobParticipantSC, I apologize for being lazy and RSVP-ing. I didn’t think — I really do try NOT to be accidentally rude.
I hope you make it to some of the after-parties — I suspect the reason most businesses aren’t doing this is that it’s so damned early (here on the left coast.)
I just called Endolyne Joe’s (which has breakfast) and (1) they have TV’s (including a back room with big screen) and (2) the guy said, “I’m sure we’ll have it on.” Sounds like a bit of community encouragement could result in something happening there. Community? Are you listening? :-)

WSBKeymasterThanks everybody for keeping this going, it’s all been changing so fast that it’s just as well I haven’t had time to make a comprehensive list. Did just get this news release from the city, not West Seattle but might interest someone:

International Fountain.
