JKBParticipantMy parents have slides, from back in the day when people took slides. Remember film?
Anyone have a slide-to-digital converter device I could borrow? Failing that, anyone have experience with a particular model they’d recommend?
Or a service that does the work. I’m looking at 500 slides, probably.

pennidoggParticipantLooks like the Costco photo dept. does that. Haven’t used them for this service myself.

JulieMemberI used ScanCafe last year, and was pleased with the service. I chose the Express service, because I was apprehensive enough about putting my slides in the mail, let alone having them go overseas. (The Express service keeps you slides and photos in California). You can track your shipment to and from the facility. Most images came out well, and it’s much less of a chore than doing them yourself. For the few images that didn’t come out, you can always try to do better, yourself, when the slides come back to you. (FWIW, the few images that didn’t work too well were all prints on textured paper, not slides, I recall.) It was expensive, but not unreasonable. Watch for periodic specials.

addParticipantHad a great experience with http://www.digmypics.com – got about 1500 slides converted. They allow you to review the images first and you can delete up to 20% of them and not have to pay for them. Friendly and responsive service and kept us updated throughout the process. They do it all in-house (Costco sends it out to a third party, as do many other services, sometimes internationally).
