New coffee shop coming to West Seattle

That’s David Robertson and Paul Binder of PB&J Textiles in front of their old location at 7349 35th SW (map; next door to Olympic Heights Laundry, which they operate) – the space where they have just announced they will open Coffee at the Heights, target date mid-June. They have been working on it for a while but kept it under wraps until they were close to the final stage of the permit process for converting the space. Once Coffee at the Heights is up and running, they plan to be open 5:30 am till 8 pm, maybe later; they will serve coffee, pastry, desserts, and sandwiches (the sandwich operation might not be up when they first open, depending on how the Health Department approval process goes). Meanwhile, their current retail/production location for PB&J Textiles is offering something timely:

That’s the display in the south windows of PB&J at 5962 Fauntleroy (map) – reusable bags, just in time for the proposed city tax on non-reusable shopping bags. (As the display notes, $4 will get you one of their bags or potentially 20 non-reusable bags, your choice!) You can buy them right there at the shop.

DD, that area is kind of a hole in the coffee grid since Carosello (former Casablanca) went out across the street. More development’s coming in, with the kitty-corner John’s Deli lot (and a couple lots south) for sale. Yo, yes, the coffee shop’s going in on 35th, the current PB&J location is on Fauntleroy.

We have missed having a local coffee shop to go to but it sure saved us a lot of money! We will have to see how the coffee is and how well this business does – no parking except in front so will be tough to get in and out of if you are in a vehicle. Good luck guys.

If we may editorialize, they are good guys making a big investment in WS business (laundromat, PB&J, and now Coffee at the Heights), and also WSB readers/forum participants. We are on that side of WS and while we love going to see Hotwire (shameless plug for WSB sponsor) and other coffeehouses to the north, we have missed having something a little closer since Carosello went out (the area is practically walking distance for us).

Oh, I went to Olympic Heights Laundromat one night not long agao and it was awful. One washing machine left my clothes wet enough to wring out a bunch of water so I had to wash them again. The other machines were only slightly better. Glad to see them filling a need in the neighborhood but I hope their coffee is better than their washing machines and dryers!

Hooray. Like WSB, I’m psyched that there’s going to be a very walkable coffee place to replace Carosello, which we have missed. I also applaud the addition of new businesses to “our” end of the West Seattle corridor. Lladro is swell but I just find it too dark and gloomy on days when I have to be inside.

CMP, you should have called us, we have a number by the coin changer when the machines are acting up. I know what the issue is with the “soaked” clothes and its a simple fix. Also, most people do not realize we have the HE machines, which means that they wash different from a standard washer. Less water, means, less soap and you can’t pack the machines with clothes.

No chance of having them open a coffee shop right there on fauntleroy? Darn…..

I live next to their textile shop location and these guys seem great- they go out and clean the drainage in the streets, they have put in better lighting in front of their store…. I wish them all the success they would like!

WELL, there was no sign of a Velvet John Travolta Triptych when we started cleaning out…. Actually there was 5,994 lbs of trash that we hauled out, of which nothing was able to be saved. For the wondering ones, nobody knows what happened to the guy who ran the place, and he even left the property owner in the dark. She had to cut the locks to get in.
And for DB, we would love to open a coffee shop here on Fauntleroy, but there is no space to be had at the time. Maybe towards the junction when the construction is done??

Towards the junction is always ok… but I love how much of West Seattle is walkable, so making Fauntleroy part of the retail walking corridor sounds good to me! (Any excuse to break up the endless townhomes and slow down traffic! heh heh heh)

has any one seen or been at the coffee shop on 16th and holden, its called jojo’s espresso and it not only has great coffee drinks it has a water fall and a charming out door seating, try it you wont be sorry.

Still no Coffee on the Heights and the former Coffee Shoppe/Carosello/Casablanca/whatever it’s name was across the street from the former PB&J on SW 35th Street will be turning into a beauty shop! Just what we need, since the Nine’s (a beauty shop) is almost directly across the street. I hope David and Paul are still planning on opening Coffee at the Heights (now 6 months behind the stated target opening date). We need some coffee up here again!
