So you wanna be a star? Two new things to try

First: C & P Coffee is hosting an April Fool’s talent show – no foolin’! – 6-8 pm 4/1, to support Gatewood Elementary. Families welcome; sign up at C & P or click to e-mail. Second: Twelfth Night Productions is kicking off opening night of its next play, “Deathtrap,” with a Dyan Cannon lookalike contest. (The former West Seattleite turned movie star, previously known as Diane Friesen (Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu 1955!), starred in the movie version in the early ’80s. From that same era – since we couldn’t find a free-use photo of her, we found this early ’80s YouTube clip (a tiny bit risque’) of Cannon with TV legend Johnny Carson:

Back to the lookalike contest – it’s planned for 7:15 pm Friday, “Deathtrap” opening night @ Youngstown Arts Center. How to enter, you ask? From the Twelfth Night announcement:

To enter the contest, please e-mail a photo of you as Dyan Cannon, as well as your name, age, phone number and e-mail address to Twelfth Night Productions, janeatay (at) msn.com. Both men and women are encouraged to apply.

The contest winner will be awarded the title “Miss West Seattle of 1955 of 2008.”

Good Ol’ Johnny..man that was a funny clip. I had no idea Dyan Cannon was from West Seattle. The funny thing is, is that Johnny Carson grew up in Logan Iowa about 11 miles from where I grew up.
    interesting. (to me anyway)

My dad went to WSHS right after Dyan Cannon and he recalls to this day how the local boys thought whe was soooo pretty even back then. They were all so torn up when she went off and married Cary Grant!

flapjack, my whole family is from Iowa too. My mom grew up in central Iowa, outside of Humboldt, in a little town called Ottosen. Its such a beautiful state…

sounds like somethings never change, as in the diffence between what the guys she went to school with nostalgicly recall of her, and then what the girls thought!…ahhh, high school…

Maybe we could get the mayor to declare March 28th as Dyan Cannon Day in Seattle. He’s good for stuff like that. Transportation solutions and development standards, not so much.

I sure do miss Johnny. Nobody else comes close. He was the best.

I cleaned house for Dyan’s mom and dad for quite a few years…great people. Met Dyan a few times, and her daughter. Both very down to earth people…really nice…and her laugh is truly genuine…

and PDieter? that clip was pre-waddle ;-)

Just a few years ago, I was surprised to see Dyan Cannon at the Trader Joe’s in Burien. She was being very sweet to two older folks that I assumed were her parents. Someone told me that they remain in the area, and so she still visits.

Bill..Dyan’s mom passed away in 1993, but her dad is still here, as far as I know…living in the Admiral District…

The wonderful Mr Friesen passed away late last year, just a month or two shy of his 100th birthday. Agreed, JanS, they’re a very nice (and talented – google “David Friesen”) family.

Sorry, comment time is over.
